Today, Garmin Express offered me the following update for ALL of my GPS, including the 1490T that was giving me troubles before:
Proximity Text, GLX, All Languages
Version 3.80 <<<<<< update from 3.70
I have installed it and it resolved my issue, I no longer get the recuring 'An update is available' notification messages for my 1490T.
The difference this time is, after installing the update and unplugging the GPS from my computer, I got a message on my GPS saying that an update was installed and I needed to restart the device. I never had this message before with version 3.70.
