Since the mods here (people who need a foreigner to tell them that "any thing" is actually one word) don't value honesty, I am not willing to comment on the root cause.
Issue is solved though...
It doesn't matter if you bought a used one "I did and it played up" so I did an Exchange so long as the Serial # matches the place it was sold" in my case Australia" they happily did the exchange.
No harm in asking.

Shows you propitiatory cables are most of the best ones.
Or people need to check cable compatibility as a common sense thing.
Nobody I speak to these days has NO idea about technology or even checks the pin outs.
This is the Way.

The world (and this forum) is grateful to have you -- the only one who has an "idea about technology" -- on board!
I'd be interested in learning how you -- the only one who has an "idea about technology" -- would check the pins of a USB cable without distroying it.
Looking at your signature already tells alot about what kind of person you are... by the way: "any thing" is one word... maybe you should talk to somebody who has "an idea about orthography"...
@ ntrex
Well since you also think you know everything, I am a retired Electronic and IT Technician of 50yrs, an have been using GPS's since 1994, and it seems you don't know how to use google about testing USB cables Here is a Link:
