First of all: the nüvi 2699 uses the NTU version of the European map, which comes in two parts nowadays. The nüvi 765 needs the NT version of the European map, which comes as a single file.

Secondly, the map file naming format as well as their storage location is quite different between the two devices.
Assuming you're using an SD card for the nüvi 765:
- Start with a clean SD card, large enough to accomodate the size of the European map file (I suggest 8 GB minimum, 32 GB max).
- Create a folder, called Garmin.
- Inside the Garmin folder, copy the European map file. If it is called gmapprom.img, rename it to gmapsupp.img *).
- Make sure the map file is unlocked. If not, unlock it with an unlocker app. Google for "gimgunlock" by wuyongzheng (you won't find it here).
- Alternative to using an unlocker app, on the nüvi 765 you can use an unlock code: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

*) Edit:
The thread about multiple maps on nüvi 7x0/7x5 dates from 2010. However, in 2012 new FW has been published for these devices, which supports a second map on the SD card. So in the Garmin folder, you can place two map files, named gmapsupp.img and gmapsup1.img. Provided your nüvi 765 has the latest FW loaded, both maps on the SD card will be recognized.
