***********I think I got it to work. Apparently the issue was that I was using a gimgunlock from 2012. I got gimgunlock-0.04.exe and this time copying it to the SD card produced the desired results. All I had to do was use Garmin Express on the LM unit to update the map, enable storage mode on the LM unit using the secret developers menu, copy gmapprom to my HDD from garmin's .system folder, run gimgunlock-0.04 on it, copy that to a sub-4GB microSD as gmapsupp.img in a Garmin directory, and finally it looks like it works.
Would be nice to know if it's possible to use BaseCamp to trim the map to below 1.8GB and install it on other devices directly (without needing an SD card). Any tips are welcome! The main stumbling block seems to be that the map is not recognized as unlocked for the older device.
*****I think I've been following some very outdated tutorials, which is why I'm having these problems. Basically, I have a Garmin Nuvi 55LM and I want to use its map update capabilities to keep my older Garmins (like a Nuvi 205) with new maps. Is there a tutorial for doing this? Note that I will likely need to reduce the map to just my geographical area since USA is more than 2GB and the device only has 1.7 GB on board. That or use an SD card. Can someone give me some tips?
Is it possible to unlock a .img map file (one that was installed to a different Garmin unit) to move it to an older Garmin?
I tried converting a map downloaded to a NUVI 55lm and ran it through gimgunlock.exe. The resulting map does show up, it does show up as 2020 in the map details, but there are no addresses in the database, so you can't navigate anywhere.
Interesting, but POI navigation is possible, it just can't find any addresses searched via go to address function.
