I've asked a couple of times where you have GMPC installed and you've not replied. Don't bother to answer now anyway, let's finish this frustration for you: Just send the map to your C drive's root, locate it, rename it from gmapsupp.img if you want and then move it to wherever the GarminMobilePC is physically installed. See this thread for other working detail map names: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or Post #43 or 46 in the current thread.

The only area i can find any type of map installed on my C:\ drive is:
C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator North America NT 2015.30.gmap
Within that its all other folders with extenstions of .GMP. No img's at all.
In my garminmobilepc folder i have no gmapbmap.img at all.Originally Posted by HaraldGPS

I only asked where you had GarminMobilePC installed, i didn't ask about where the the gmap folder's installed. I think you're quite confused about all this, obviously. The detail map image which is used by GMPC is a compiled working map and is not to be confused with the files contained in the gmap folder which are used to compile that resultant image file map.
Usually, the program Garmin Mobile PC is installed in the root of the computer's C drive [i.e. the system drive/partition], but it can be installed to another internal partition or separate internal drive or an external drive which is why i asked the question. In the old post quoted above, the user michaelzeus has it installed in E drive. Regardless of where it's located, if you don't have a basemap in the GarminMobilePC folder it cannot function for navigation at all if there's also no detail map present. Both are needed for trouble-free complete navigation.
Your MapInstall can see your C drive, so just send your detail map selection to the root of C drive [which you've said is the only install option it's offering], then move the resulting gmapsupp.img to the GarminMobilePC folder as i said in post #171 above. If you have no gmapbmap.img file in there, get one from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Alright i downloaded the base map and placed that .img into the garminmobilepc directory. I also used mapinstall and installed the 2015.30 map to drive C:\. Relocated it after it had finished and started up garmin mobile PC.... this is what i get:
As you can see form the images above, it says the 2015.30 map is "detail"... yet when i click the icon to start a location it tells me i have no detailed maps......
The map you have in GMPC is not the one that comes from Mapinstall but a crappy map by mafozi, lol who is mafozi?
@boz
Obviously you're correct and from somewhere he's downloaded some image made by that guy mafozi. I dunno who he is but his images are usually 'interfered with' by adding his name to the mapset like that, also they're often lazily or intentionally left with MsFlag 1. It's probably from a torrent and it's also probably the full NA again which is oversized and cannot be seen by GMPC. I suspect that because of the minus sign in from of the map size [-1930.0 MB] which was discussed here earlier in the contact of an oversized CH map displaying as -863.6 MB when it's true size was 3.19 GiB [about 3431.4 MB]. Using the same calculation method described in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], the size of themafozi image would be ~2365 MB or ~2.365 GB [decimal] which in binary is 2.2 GiB and 10% over the FAT16 file size limit of 2 GiB minus 1 Byte.
@stealthr
You simply must either make your own image under 2 GiB from the gmap folder you have installed using MapInstall to select tiles. MI will tell you the size used in 'MB' [actually it's MiB] like in this pic:
Just don't select any more tiles past 2,047.9 'MB' [MiB] or 1.99 'GB' [GiB] as exampled above and it'll be under the limit.
Or download another ready compiled image of the areas you need but be sure it's been kept under 2 GiB file size.
