I need help. i have gpsmap 296. garmin cure 3 app don't work for hwid 260 firmware. manually replacing .img .gcd and so on. with hex editor and flashing manually-made firmware not work. flashing firmware complete normally, but device still don't boot. boot screen appears and nothing else happens. May be someone can help to make cure-firmware for such device? p.s. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]different firmwares for this device. You can use either.
I don't know how this firmware enters the mass storage mode. It's different from nuvi firmwares I am used to. So wait a few days until I figure it out.
Hm, are you sure your device has a mass storage mode? I think it doesn't use files at all and maps are sent to it in a different way using WebUpdater or some other software.
I think so because of the following reasons:
1) This firmware has "GPSmap 276C" string inside. As far as I know GPSmap 276C doesn't have a mass storage mode and maps are stored inside dedicated flash regions.
2) This firmware doesn't have "gmapsupp" and ".img" strings inside.
If I'm right, then GarminCure3 isn't suitable for your device. What you need is erasing a few flash regions, for example, the region containing the map and the NV memory region.
BTW, what were you doing when your device failed?
I'm not sure about mass storage mode, i think, that you are right about it. maps and other data synchronising with mapsource.. i don't bother about erasing regions with nv memory and map memory. Are there any thoughts about ways of erasing this regions? p.s. 4.80 firmware have one instance of "img" hex value is 69 6D 67. other instances are "diskimg" and one instance with ".iMgL(."
Those "img" strings don't mean anything. Even very old devices like 60CSx have "gmapsupp" and ".img" inside their firmware.
Unfortunately, I don't know which region contains the map.
Can you try updating the map while in pre-boot mode?
Also I think erasing NV would be much harder, as this device doesn't support update.txt script.
