You need en_US.srd or en_GB.srd in /.System/ASR (for English)
It's called speech Recognition Data in GARMIN.Express
Tab Device Advanced in GARMIN.Express
Also check supported_features.html in /.System/Diag/html folder.
ASR must be in the list .
Voices, from Voice folder are not available neither from Webupdater nor from Express or Mapupdater.
Usually voices are preloaded in 3490 so Webupdater doesn't provide them, if are missing you must copy files manually in Voice folder, so download files from post n1. They probably are old ,so once you have 34xx voices files in folder ,Webupdater will provide an update.
ASR files are voice commands ,voices are speaking street name files.
ASR must be downloaded with map. You must have the whole CN in gps to make them work or you get "American English not available ...." error message.

You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600

I guess I just can't figure it out.
George
The menu there does not have anything about Speech Recognition data in the GarminExpress program.
George
There is not a /.System/Diag/html folder at that location.

I guess I am at the height of frustration. The one feature that I used all the time was the Voice Recognition. This morning I downloaded the newest map file, thinking the necessary files for voice recognition came with it. I did have an icon on the Apps page to change the "wakeup" command with the 3790, with the 3490 update, that icon is no longer there. I can't seem to find the en_US.srt files anywhere to download either.
There must be some kind of solution out there for what I am running into.
George
File en_US.srd
[hide]
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
[/hide]
Procedure: cut/copy ALL files *.srd from folder ASR in to your PC....turn on nuvi....link nuvi to PC....launch the Web Updater....and install ALL the file for ASR (*.srd)
With my nuvi it works fine...
And the ASR work with the map NA FULL,not shortcut...or with the US only, but the original map from Garmin
Bye,bye

I think that George's Nuvi does not have feature ASR enabled, Thus the lack of the icon for Voice Command.
<html><br><b>Supported Features</b><br><br>Part Number: 006-D2617-00<br>Rev: 0A<br><br>3D Buildings<br>3D Terrain<br>TTS Phonetics<br>Junction View<br>Lane Assist<br>Speed Limits<br>Traffic EULA<br>Photo Nav<br>ASR<br>Custom Avoidances<br>Advanced Detours<br>2D Footprints<br>3D Buildings Supplementary<br>Bluetooth<br></html>
The APPS VOICE COMMAND ICON should always be displayed in a 3490 (even if the Voice Command is not working due to lack of files)
Another Scenario is that maybe something has gone wrong with the the conversion.

I did exactly, I think as you suggest.
Cut all the files ending with .srd from the \.System\ASR folder to a folder on the desktop.
Tried to update from both GarminExpress and WebUpdater with an without the file you sent in the ASR folder.
No change, nothing to download was shown in either program used above.
I must have something drastically wrong. I think later today I will start over and re-flash the 34XX software on to the unit again.
I sure do appreciate all the help, but I just don't seem to be getting anywhere.
Thanks,
George

Umh,strange....and turn on nuvi after moved files *.srd ? The OS nuvi write in Garmindevice.xml after run device....and Web Updater read from this file.
Bye,bye
