Nice find! So Garmin UnLocker Alternative 6.06 worked in 32-bit OS without the 3GB switch. FIU choked as expected without the switch... pietu will chuckle over that one.
I'm confirming that Neil. I was using a 32 bit OS without the 3GB switch. and ULA 6.06.
I should eventually end up with this file on my Etrex Legend as only the Nuvi's 500 and 550 are really equipped for getting good graphics from these G2 charts.
I'll check out that tutorial you linked to.

No lol, FIU doesnt chocke. As usual users close it before it finishes its job.
I used my old laptop 32 bit OS
It needed at least 10 minutes to do the job with this old notebook and it unlocked it fine, no errors.
The FIU and Unl.Alternative engines are Garmin Unlocker and GMT: with big IMGs GU can fail coz it needs 3 GB memory, but this is not the case.
pietu hasnt patched GU, so I repeat :no differences between the 2 unlockers at least in their unlocking feature.
The FIU unlocked map ,with Win 7 32 bit no 3GB switch, in my nuvi.

@Caty
Ah, Rats! I thought pietu had done something to his new version [Garmin UnLocker Alternative v6.06 - (20.02.2012)] before he posted it last month. As usual i'm too gullible Caty, and thought that this big image file at around 1.6GiB needed the 3GB switch for FIU which is what i thought Ballebar meant in that initial reply to ChrisNav:
I should have realized that it was just a generic suggestion by Ballebar to a user having trouble using FUI maybe with a 32-bit OS and not that he expected that FIU would have trouble with this particular map without the switch. That's why i said "FIU choked as expected without the switch... pietu will chuckle over that one.". The other obvious alternative, that FIU was closed before it completed didn't really occur to me...duh! I was going to dl this image off-peak today to play with it using both FIU and pietu's new v6.06 in an old XP32-bit PC but you've saved me the trouble. I should have done that before i posted last.
At least someone got to chuckle..not pietu, but catmag... and now me too... lol! Although i still say 'Ah, Rats!'.
Lol , for big maps we mean very large .img tiles,
for example. in this map
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
where all the unlockers in 32 bit OSes hanged on a very large .img tile: 08225032.img (1,028,160 KB).
That sub-part 69 in the unlocking process gave DIV BY ZERO exception error in Garmin Unlocker.
But since FIU vers v.1.3 ( I donnow Unl.Alt. corresponding version) with the help of 3GB switch in 32 bit OS , we can cope with these big parts. Np with 64 bit OSes.
Edit:Btw if you read WknThDg's post n 9 in this thread (he's using XP, if he didnt change recently)he unlocked the.img with FIU.

Yeah, yeah... laugh at the old guy, he's a bit slow . Actually, did know all that, i just worded 'big image file at around 1.6GiB needed the 3GB switch for FIU' a bit badly. Because i initially thought that BB was saying it had a large tile like GB Discoverer, but if i'd read all the thread (like i keep telling others they should have done) i wouldn't have made that mistake.
Thanks for taking the time to explain Caty. I need to go and sulk now!
Well I gave it a few more tries with FIU and made sure the program closed by its self. This time I got a 826 MB file.
Looks like I am possibly running out of RAM resources or intermediate space during the unlock process. I did not use the 3GB switch. I am not going to bother trouble shooting and trying any more on this IMG file as the product does lack a lot of detail in lakes I expected it to show detail on especially in Homeport.
FIU works very well with smaller images on my computer.
Its all good since the end result is good. I'm going to put it to rest now.
Thanks for all the input and help.
I was wondering if someone could help me out. I am able to view this map on Homeport with no problem at all. I put it on my sd card and rename it to gmapsupp.img and put it in my Gpsmap 76csx. Pull the map up and view into lakes in my area and this is what it shows.
Part of the lake shows fine but the other part has the x grid over the map. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks for any info.

Don't have that model in hand, but have you set up the Map Setup Page correctly to display this G2 marine map? Press MENU>Setup Map>Marine (Anchor Symbol) to check the settings.
