    help

    Bluetooth. My daughters 1390 has it but I didn't think to ask in 2011 when I purchased this 1300 - and I have no BT system in my 2007 Honda Accord. Do you or anyone else know (or have stripped the unit down to see?) if the PCB has either a BT chip on it (and not active) or has an empty socket for a BT chip. If it needs a chip pressed it I would like to try to source it and install for BT function. Considering how similar the 13XX were I would think that the PCB are all the same and just different features activated depending on the Model and maybe needs one of those other [Rgn] you have talked about.

    Any ideas?
    Thx again

    It's quite a while since i've stripped either a 1300 or 1390 down. However, i do stand by the above statement in that the US 1300 doesn't have a BT module on board, and nor indeed does it have a microphone which is also required for BT to function. The mike lead plugs in to the standard PCB socket and the mike itself will fit behind the hole on the LH side of the front casing and bezel also present on 1300/1310/1340/1350. As to the BT module, i can't recall for sure how it's fitted to the 1390 but unlikely it's 'plug-in'. If you could source a module and mike [the latter would be easy, the former not so easy] you could maybe trick a 1300 up to have Bluetooth but frankly it's not worth the trouble in my opinion, especially when you can buy a BT visor kit for 14-15 bucks on eflea:

    Maybe you could search for some pics/videos of 13xx PCBs to compare the set ups if you really want to go down that path for the challenge and fun.

    @Neil
    Thx again for such prompt reply.
    I purchased 2 Visor kits from Aldi in 2012 "VIVID" brand and whilst they do work - everytime you leave the vehicle the PAIRING is lost (happens with iphone 3GS, 4S, and HTC Desire so not phone specific) - this uses to happen also with my previous GPS 2009 Navman S50, something to do with the lousy <phone model>.ini files supplied by Navman (and they would do nothing about it) - and so with the 1300 you have to go through the whole process - "Forget this device", then enable BOTH phone and VIVID for Bluetooth search, then enter pass key "0000" then connect - all too hard for wife if just getting out of car for 10 minutes. Also hates anything in her ear!!??!!

    Considered a 3rd party in dash GPS for the 2007 Honda Accord but costly and would have to research what system it runs, what maps, what updates available, what other functions etc etc - too hard! So hoped 1300 would be able to unlock/upchip to BT.

    Maybe I'll try to research the PCB issue further.

    However - just on the subject of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - have now tested out the "unlocked' features (indebted to you and others) - they all work fine. Slight issue that maybe someone has the answer or can "mod' the flash to accommodate -

    1. The JCV comes on sometimes a bit earlier than desirable and sometimes a bit later - and stays on for 5-6 seconds - and since we are not watching the screen too much while driving it is easy to miss the JCV display - so is there a function or could a mod be done to sound a "BING" (or similar) when the JCV is displayed (a bit like happens with the Cyclops Safety Camera or Zone Alert)?

    2. Similarly, since the unit knows and displays the Speed Limit and the Actual Speed, when the latter exceeds the former the display of the Actual does turn RED but again if not studying the screen this will often be missed - so could it a "BING-BING-BING" be activated or "modded" to sound whenever ACTUAL exceeds LIMIT? The old 2008 S50 Navman used to do something like that. Where I now live in Queensland, the law has recently changed and the Police are warning they will nab drivers for ANY kph over the LIMIT. A warning sound would be a REAL help here.
    Again thx
    PG

    PS - Both iPhones and HTC have NO facility for OPTIONS - they DO reconnect automatically to my friend's Mitsubishi Triton in-vehicle BT so don't think its the phone end - believe its the VIVIDs that cant seem to store (or have) a profile for these phones so when the phones try to reconnect - nothing happens!

    Maybe it can be changed in fw and/or jcv file. Too big for me, i'm not the wizard you think i'm just a 'joe plod' with a lot of general knowledge. Maybe a Navigation Software Expert like Loly can comment.

    This is possible with some later models, 3597 for instance, where it's Locale dependent, eg UK and other EU locales have an additional option with check box for 'Audible Speed Alerts' in the Map & Vehicle settings. But not for 1xxx sorry. Again maybe an NSE would care to comment if it can be modded in fw but i don't think so. My solution for new low tolerance in Qld is use cruise control as much as possible, but i guess your Accord maybe doesn't have have it either. On the subject of the speed indicated by the vehicle and that indicated by the GPS: Driving in the States i've found that their speedometers are generally correct compared to the GPS calculated speed. Our AU speedos seem to be set to read ~10% over in every car i've driven here lately, so worth checking your accord against the 1300. Pressing the speed zone on the Map screen will bring up a bigger digital read-out for speed and lots of other historical data.

    I'll move/copy & edit some posts to a new thread about the 13xx BT soon.

    @Neil
    You are too modest :-} Honda does have Cruise Control and YES use it every time possible - but a bit difficult in metro with traffic speeds up and down and speed zones changing 40/50/60/70 every few Km here. Yes same for me - I think ADR require speedos to display 5% higher than "real" speed. Gives us a bit of leeway, but still its easy to miss a sign like 40 for school or 50 for whatever (like near me the local MP just did it on an arterial road on 3 resident complaints - Police Minister said "goodie!") and get done for lots of $$$s and points. "Audible speed alerts" should be on ALL GPSs.

    A thought: ..... for the JCVs: since POIs get a repeated alert tone , could we extract the lon/lat positions of JCVs out of that file and place them in a custom POI file and the alert happen as a matter of course?

    For the Over-Speed-Limits - if we cant get the EU functionality it would require a code mode - very simple for someone experienced in the software (@lolypop000) - I am an old programmer of mainframes etc in the 1980s, it should be about 10-12 lines of code - read both values and compare , condition "1" or "0", if "1" then run alert routine. But admittedly I am 25 years out of it. Loly????

    As for the BT (OT) matter - FYI there is a "MIC slit" on the LHS of the bezel on my US 1300. Could that be for a mic (whether on the PCB or not?) Maybe worth an entry on the new thread you are going to start for me Neil. Thx again.

    Thx for reply. Neil suggests a Nav Software expert - I see you are described as one in your profile. Please see my post #939. Are you able to help with these "alerts"?

    Oh I see @Neil
    I missed the fact that the 1300 had a slit in the bezel where the mike "should" (could?) be. Mistakenly thought that was a tell-tale sign there was a mic onboard :-/
    Is it hard to open the casing and check out the insides? Any tips (even by PM) would be appreciated. (Have found nothing yet from attempts to see pcb pictures etc.)
    Yes, I know OT - so please transfer this to new thread 13xx BT when you get a chance thx Neil.

    @Lolypop000 and @Giomen - the profile for you guys says "Navigation Software Expert" so I am hoping to hear your further thoughts on the "BING" suggestion for JCV and over SPEED LIMIT.

    I do hope that one of you gurus can come up with a solution for an Audible Alert.
    Thx

    Garmin realize this function on Nuvi 30,40,50 as I remember it and and I am not mistaken. It is very useful feature!!! But it not work on 13xx device...

    Mate, the model name means nothing. A 1390 could be named as 1234 by it's internal programming and it would still function as a 1390. Those other area units such as you mentioned are 1390s with a different model number, that's all. In some places, maybe they did have a mike fitted in the case but again it means nothing without the BT module. The thing which determines the BT function is what hardware is included to enable BT, and my US 1300s doesn't have the BT module or the mike. Have a look at this video, it's a US 1300:

    See when he finally opens it, no mike lead to the PCB same as my US 1300:

    1300 open

    If you want to check, open your unit following that vid to have a look. If you do, be very careful when finally splitting the case so you don't pull the screen ribbon off the board accidentally.
