How do these compare to TomTom safety/red light cameras that are free via app, also free?

It depends on what GPS unit you buy from Garmin.
As for being free, only what you find posted here other than that they are not free from Garmin.....A lie goes around the internet before anyone ever fact checks it if it is true or not. In most cases no one ever checks anything they just accept it as fact.....
