Utility to display multiple, transparent Garmin img files simultaneously

Is there a utility that will display multiple, transparent Garmin img files simultaneously?
They can be loaded into GPS where they overlay, but want to do this in Mapsource or similar without first having to combine into one img using MapSetToolKit

you can make maps transparent using GmapTool and then use it to install the IMGs in Mapsource

Is this the "join" function ? Do you have to join the files into one and then split them and install in mapsource?
