Default OSMAND - Offline maps keep disappearing, need to downloaded them again.

I hope someone here can help as the OSMAND site is not user friendly.

I am planning a trip to USA and will be driving from Niagara Falls to the west coast following Route 66.

I have downloaded all the required maps both onto my android smart phone (Moto 5E Play) as well as my Samsung TAB A, a total of 15 USA and Canada files.

Twice now I have tried to test a GPX file only to find that the downloaded maps are no-longer available meaning I need to download them again. These files are quite large and they really eat into my download allowance.

This is now the second time this has happened and it will be a PITA if it happens while doing this drive so if anyone has any ideas what is happening, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards
    Bob

Not sure why, maybe a bug with software. You should ask creators about problem.
    In meantime

you can download maps separately, place them on a card and keep in reserve just in case...
Before asking a question, know it's already discussed here and at 99.9% is not unique. Use search.

Many questions become very arduous, a lot of time chewed deja vu...Since we have lost all the year of work and effort, many people have no will to answer the same questions again. Me neither. Use a search, please.

Many thanks for the extremely fast reply

I have just found their email address so will shout them a query and see what they come back with.

    @Bob Kat,

I use this app for sometime now.

    Never had any maps removed.

In fact it always tells me when there are updates.
    They come each month.

    As for GPX files.

When I am planing a trip and have made some GPX files I test them on OSMAND to see how they look and if I need to make any changes to them.

As I have been using Garmin for a very long time I use MapSource program on my laptop to make and edit any routes I have made.
Then transfer them to OSMAND+ to test.

But never have lost any maps or GPX files over the years I have been using this app.

It is also great for setting up a hiking trip where you have a group of people and with a Tablet and a larger screen you can show others the hiking trips you have planned for them.

Not good for hiking the battery runs down to quick.

For the hikes I use a Garmin GPSMAP 66S got from 16hr.

The map install works great on the internal memory.

Can be a bit dodgy when you want them on a SD card.

You have to set the path correctly or the app can not find the maps.

It has happen to me a couple of times moving the folder over to the SD card.
Then going into the app and telling it where to find the maps.
Only to find I made a mistake in the location and it wants to download the maps again.

One thing I do is rename the OSMAND fold on the memory card before I copy the files to the SD card.
That way I have a backup if I map the location wrong.

If you want screen shots I will post them......

Thanks for getting back to me, I have found the maps have gone twice on my phone and once on my TAB so have needed to down load them twice, this time I will just copy them from one to the other but also make a backup onto my desktop PC. The route I have planned will take me through 21 different states so the download is quite large and I can't afford to exceed my data usage so will wait till the end of my billing period before I can download them all again.

I have created a separate folder for my maps and figured out how to get to them in OSMAND. I just wish there was better documentation for it like a downloadable pdf file.

I have managed to us Google My Maps to create all my days drives, all 21 of them. I have no intention of driving on major highways so I have turned each days drive into a more scenic route and the GPX files I have tested have all stuck with my planning.

I will mainly be using the Samsung TAB A 10.1 while driving and the phone if we go off the beaten track.

Once again, thanks for your reply.

    Bob
