Just to clear up some possible misconceptions about what is meant by Garmin's terms 'North America', 'North America Lower 49 States' and 'North America Canada Only'.

This is their complete coverage, North America:

You get a bit more for your money than what the title suggests.

This is what's included in their version of NA Lower 49 States [US]:

Also includes all the bits'n'bobs which come with the full NA, i.e.
Puerto Rico
U.S. Virgin Islands
Cayman Islands
The Bahamas
French Guiana
Guadeloupe
Martinique
Saint Barthélemy
Jamaica

and it certainly includes Hawaii, but not Alaska.

Alaska comes with Canada, and in spite of Garmin naming it as 'Canada Only' it also includes the US Northern Border States as well as AK. Why don't they just say in the name? Go figure!:

Caty's explanation earlier of what constitutes the 'Lower 49' is absolutely 100% correct in the legal sense imo. It's also referred to as the 'Continental US' or 'Mainland US' and is the 48 contiguous States plus AK as the 49th State of the Union. The contiguous States are also referred to as 'Lower 48' understandably. Where Garmin differs is that their 'Lower 49' includes HI [the 50th State of the Union] and not AK. So it would seem they not only have their own calendar but also their own atlas. Garmin is so garmin.

They could have avoided any confusion by simply naming the US map as 'Lower 48 + Hawaii' instead of using the quite confusing misnomer of 'Lower 49'. Canada should also be named as 'Canada, Alaska and US Border States' too i reckon. Why they would want to understate the map content in the Title is beyond me.
