Then xml are my next step...
Edit: unless it is in GarminDevice.xml because this file gets overwritten at power-up. I think I can prevent that, but then it means modifying the firmware...
@ddabcd277
Correct! OMG, where did you get theese numbers?
No really. How many do you really think are making those modifications? 10%, 1%, 0.00001% of Garmin's user? I am sure they are not concerned at all by all of this.Quote:

Everyone who mods his gps has already paid for it.
Some people will request free replacement form Garmin if mod bricks gps.
Some people won't buy next model, when can modify currently owned one.
Some people will buy a new model, because they knew, that it can be modified.
Difficult to estimate, how this change Garmin income, but i agree, that number of people doing mods is insignificant.
Not agree with that. IMHO it is the opposite. Same as rooting the Android, jailbraking iOS, unlocking Sony PSP etc This is just part of the big companies money game! But still those companies are making the biggest profit in their area! I even think that if there weren't any ways of "taking the other roads" no one was going to buy those units. I remember a friend of mine saying to me - "I am going to buy Sony PSP because I can easily download games from Internet!" This is the way IMHO how things should be looked at. In fact 37xx series are already discontinued...Quote:

We can't estimate the amount here, because of many reasons.
For example, there are local Garmin distributors who want to be more attractive for customers, so they rise 3760's functionality to 3790's and sell it for 3760's price. This is only a small example, of course, you can easily imagine a lot more possibilities. I've been working for such distributors long before turboccc have had published 37xx patch and I'm sure I'm NOT the only Garmin patcher in the world :) Also we can't estimate percent of such distributors among people downloading RGN_Tool.
I remember when OPDA was giving Symbian developer certificates , Nokia phones users needed to install cr acks and to mod symbian os. I've been admin at OPDA forum for more than one year, I know Nokia was behind this distribution and it stopped as soon as Nokia closed Symbian foundation and made the agreement with Microsoft.Quote:

Nokia knew they could sell more Symbian phones if somehow hackable.
Same can be for Garmin too, even maps sharing at a push, can be an advantage to sell more units .
In this day a lot of peolpe cant afford to buy a new nuvi becouse they dont have extra money.
But if you have old nuvi and found on this forum that you can modified and get extra futures, this bring smile on face of a lot people.
These people appreciate the efforts of TurboCCC,Alexander2010,Kunix,Catymag,ddabcd277...... which they brighten their life in this difficult times.
When i help users here or in Slovenian forum the payment for my efforts is word THANKS,and that word means more to me then tones and tones of money.
Garmin is the global corporation. Due the greatest capitalization this efforts is bite of mosquito. Even it make effort to future this will demonstrative thrashing. This thrashing is incur losses for Garmin but there are demonstration of power solely.Quote:
