deleting the entire GPX folder (save favorites / waypoints in BC before) from time to time should also help to reduce startup time especially if track logging is activated
There is another way to defrag without using a defrag program tht only writes once to the flash memory.
1 Copy the contents of the nuvi to a hard drive including the hidden /.system folder (Backup)
Do it again to another hard drive (Second Backup)
2 Delete all the files in the Nuvi (Do Not disconnect Nuvi from USB)
3 Copy Contents of the Backup Folder back to the Empty Nuvi.
Your Nuvi internal drive will be totally defragmented.
Do not do this if you are not confortable with this kind of thing.
Some danger does exist!
The Flash memory in the Nuvi is used as a Fat 32 Filesystem and Defraging it will be Beneficial Specially after Map Update.
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
