    Default GARMIN ETREX 32x

    Hello: Greetings to the community.
I have a Garmin ETREX 32x. I understand that I must use "universal firmware patcher for protected garmin devices" and patch the firmware in order to use the CITY NAVIGATOR EUROPE published on this website.

    I'm right?

Is the "universal firmware patcher for protected garmin devices" compatible with the ETREX 32x?

On the other hand, there are patched firmwares of my ETREX 32x to be able to install JNX / Bird Eyes maps.

Can these firmwares unlock the CITY NAVIGATOR maps? (I understand that no, that they are different things).

Finally, do you see any inconvenience in using the modified JNX / Bird Eyes firmwares if, afterwards, I want to patch the firmware to use the CITY Navigator?

    Thanks in advance

    Here is the manual:

Spoiler: The complete manual for the Etrex
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I do not think it would make a very good GPS for driving with the CITY NAVIGATOR EUROPE maps on it.

It does not have Bird Eye

Even if it did you would have to pay for the service.

It is a hiking and biking GPS Unit that comes preloaded with Topo map.

I am not one for patching any Garmin GPS Unit.

As far as I know the Etrex 20-30 are just tracking GPS's for hiking etc. I have a real old Etrex I use all the time I can load WPT and do Goto but it is direct to point does not allow roads and track weavering all over the place, so spend your money and buy a unit that you can modify with different apps. Save your 32 for when you get out of your car and go for a walk some where, just remember to take a WPT of your car first .

Garmin etrex GPS can be loaded with city navigator maps and used for driving (with step-by-step door-to-door instructions) or in the city for walking. They also support Birds Eye maps and even satellite photos (such as google maps, to understand us).
As GPS, in my opinion, they are expensive and bad, with super slow processors compared to any smartphone. Topographic maps are heavy compared to OSM that are free.
However .... they are robust and long battery life, they are reliable.

At least on the Etrex 30x you just use the patcher to use jnx files.
You can use city navigator nt (not ntu) without any patching .
The etrex 32x should be the same. As far as I know it is more or less the same device only with 8Gb internal memory.
They are super slow, special with big maps .
Also, if you have more than one map in the memory (internal or external), even deactivated, when searching on a POI it will search on all the maps.
On the bicycle , it’s auto routing with Garmin maps is not that good. With openfietsmap lite maps it gets better.
Wouldn’t use it in a car.. Mobile phone gps are much better.
For me the etrex makes sense due to the joystick (in bike when it rains touch screen may not work well, and also with gloves it can be tricky) and battery life/running on AA batteries .
    Hope it helps

Hello everyone and thanks for your interest.

I share this information from another forum:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    eTrex 20x/30x | 2250 | 290 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: --- | File: eTrex20x_30x_Webupdater__290.gcd
    eTrex 22x/32x | 3445 | 250 | MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: Weak | GVS: --- | File: eTrex22x_32x_Webupdater__250

MSV: Weak - it verifies the validity of map signatures in a simple way, you can unlock an .img using gimgunlock-0.04 (without patching your firmware), but in case of unicode maps (CP65001) you must modify the CP value (see the Temporary authentication of Unicode maps*).

Firmware updates are done by GE or manually by Webupdater (not Pre Boot mode):

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Birdseye JNX can be Patched

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Download and unpack, eTrexXXx_XXx_Webupdater__XXX_JNX.gcd to your PC where your device is attached.
Then you drag-and-drop eTrexXXx_XXx_Webupdater__XXX_JNX.gcd onto the WebUpdater icon on your desktop.
The Firmware will be flashed on Device

    Warning:
Be sure to remove All BirdEyes images (JNX files) already present on device before apply the Patch
BirdEyes images can be restored after patch is applied.

    Hello people,
unfortunately the links to the etrex32x (firmware 2.50) are dead.
Is there any way to get the "old" firmware version? I have found nothing on the internet except dead links.
I did a map update, firmware update I disabled, still it was done with. Now I have 2.70 on it :-(

    With this limitation:
Disabled automotive routing on OSM maps.

And I do not want that.
Could someone here post a link to the firmware version 2.50?

    many greetings

    @gpsnuup,

Your best bet is to try here:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

On left menu, click on Firmware, scroll down to desired version

    All links are working, 17.03.2022.

    @aspirin624
I know the link, unfortunately there is no entry under "firmware".
With other models, for example the Orgon ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) there are various firmwares to download. Maybe something will happen soon.

Nevertheless, thank you for your efforts.
