G'day Chris.
If your US/EU 2xx7 has HWID 1582 it will have PCB P/N of 105-02283-00 or 105-02139-02 which matches those of SG/MY 2567's HWID 1722. Theoretically cross-flashing is possible because even though the HWIDs don't match the PCBs do. Safest way would be to use US/EU boot.bin combined with SG/MY fw1_resources.bin and fw_all.bin to create a hybrid RGN file retaining HWID 1582. If after flashit you're faced with 'system software missing' message, you could try a full flash to HWID 1722 using the full SG/MY firmware, but that's much riskier and could brick it. Using original boot.bin and HWID should be reasonably safe and reversible, but any flashing of this nature carries some risk regardless.
If your unit has HWID 2077 best don't attempt to flash SG at all as i think it'll brick for sure.
Current SG/MY fw is V3.50 which is only available via the Asian 'Garmin Updater' by running it's launcher.exe with a qualifying device attached. V3.40 is still available on the website here:
Don't run the nuvi25x7_SG_v340.exe file, extract it to find the firmware GUPDATE.GCD in nuvi25x7/.System to make your RGN file.Code:http://download.garmin.com/sg/download/SG_SW_UPGRADE/nuvi25x7_SG_v340.exe
Hi Neil. Thank you for this nice piece of advice - I'll try as you described the next few days. I'll report if it's successful.
Hi Neil. I've tried several times but the device keeps restarting. Boot.bin directly from the system folder (europe boot.bin) and the two other files from the link you provided. I chose to ovverride HWID and SW version - also replace HWID text strings. Booting - white screen - booting - ..... Then I tried to flash everything from the SG_v340.exe file using the updater. No other result. However I managed to change it back to its original state - luckily. Any other advice??? Thanks a lot. Regards Chris
What HWID is your unit, 1582 or 2077?
Its HWID is 1582, SW Version is 480. According to your description it should work.... I'm not giving up that fast..
It's theoretical, more an optimistic 'rule of thumb' than an absolute. If the PCB P/Ns match then a hybrid cross-flash with the original boot.bin is possible. However if both HWIDs match it's always possible. Not always works with just PCB match, 3790 conversion to 3490 is a case in point, full flash works but no good with the 37x0 boot.bin [unless the 34x0 fw_all.bin is first compressed]. It's getting harder and harder to flash US>Asian with newer units. It's easier with older units.
I don't chuck in the towel quickly either, so let's bat on. Some questions and further suggestions:
- Was that the exact same result you got when you tried the TH firmware? Traditionally, SG [historically and generally in my experience] is likely to be the most compatible of the Asian FWs for US/EU units which is why i suggested you try it.
- There may be a conflict in the Voice, Text and/or Keyboard files, so move them off the unit and try again with TH and then SG. You could also try TWN conversion.
- Try compressing the Asian fw_all.bin with kunix's packer gfw.exe: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]. Sometimes the original boot bin cannot handle a larger fw_all bin [that was the problem with [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] post#310]. You could also try with an earlier version of Asian fw which perhaps has a smaller fw_all bin more approximating the current US one.

Hi Neil. Thank you very much for your support. I've tried to flash Thai, Singapore and Taiwanese Firmware - compressed and uncompressed - with European boot.bin and with the file provided in the package. I also removed the voice, text and keyboard folders. The device kept restarting or showed "System File Missing". That's it for now - too many hours have been spent on changing my device to Thai firmware. But again, many thanks for your help.
In explanation of the message 'System Software Missing' which is encountered when a unit software update is not completed. It can happen in 2 ways: Firstly [and commonly] an interrupted 'normal' firmware update [where the unit loses power or loses it's data connection to PC or an online update is cancelled midway or an internet outage occurs] resulting in the current firmware, aka system software, being erased but the updated firmware not being completely installed. The second way it occurs is during a conversion or 'cross-flash' where it's desired to retain the HWID but an 'inappropriate' boot.bin is used and there's simply not the capability to load the new firmware. In either case loading the complete original firmware to the unit will usually successfully fix it because the HWID has been retained and the bootloader was unchanged.
The 2nd scenario is what you faced using the US boot.bin, and the unit was not successfully loading the Asian firmware but that problem is normally quite easily reversible as you've found.
When you said this:
do you mean that you tried to load the full Asian firmware with Updater.exe [gupdate.gcd first converted to *.rgn file using RGN_Tool]? Or did you simply try to load it by using the Asian launcher.exe tool? The second method will only work if your unit already has a correct Asian HWID of course.Quote:
............. and with the file provided in the package.
The flashing of complete Asian firmware with Updater.exe has a much better chance of working because it has the correct boot bin to load the fw, but it will change the HWID to Asian and also has a much higher chance of 'bricking' the unit. The chance of bricking is lessened by the matching PCB P/Ns however. If you haven't tried that but don't wish to do so because of the higher bricking risk that's completely understandable of course and i'm not trying to encourage you to do so, simply because i don't have a HWID 1582 device to try it first.
Perhaps if some member has already tried a full Asian flash in US/EU HWID 1582 2xx7 they'll post here to report the results.
Hi Neil. Finally I chose to flash full Thai firmware - the device started up properly. However there was no sign of success. I could change the menu to Thai - but I'm pretty sure that this is also possible with European firmware. Futhermore I still didn't get a Thai keyboard so I still had to do any search by English locations. I copied the content of the text folder delivered with the Thai firmware but nothing changed. However I'm not sure if this really is a Thai update as I can hardly find anything in the internet. Do you have links to Thai firmware??? Another sign of not being successful is the fact that in the device information file it's still HWID 1582. Can this be possible??? Update.exe reported a successful firmware update.... Regards Chris
