After a failed firmware update I get the Loader Loading screen of death...
I have tried to
-get into pre-boot screen by pressing top left corner and switching the unit on (on battery power, on mains power, on USB power). no success, it either goes into Loader Loading or 1st goes to the calibration screen Press Dot after which it goes into Loader Loading..
-go a hard reset, press on right bottom corner and do all the variations. No luck
-tried the UPDATER.EXE routine, knowing that I should be in pre-boot. But nothing ventured....
-tried this with various .rgn files. The nuvi shows "Loader" "updating" One even gives me the "loading maps"+status bar on the nivi, but it then falls back into Loader Loading
-at no point can I see the unit in File Explorer..
Since the unit is 2+ years, Garmin is offering me to sell me a new unit for a reduced price. Before I take them up on their kind offer, I'm hoping there is some new insight that has not been posted on the Web just yet....
If I'd dropped the unit and ******* the screen, I would know for sure it was my mistake....
Hope is the last to die...

Hello Loly,
I had not, just did load them.
Tried with 2 different USB cables:
press left top corner and plug in USB
GARMIN fires up, displays the GARMIN logo
after a while I get the (frozen) calibration screen with at the left bottom press dot
and then Loader Loading agian.
but THANK you for your effort
found a rgn file (300cure) that allows me to see the unit via Explorer
gmapsupp is missing so am running mapsource now.... fingers crossed
Update
Managed to load some maps
and 1 time managed to use WEBUPDATER to load 4.30 firmware
but I must have messed up the file structuree so much by now (following the various tips I found on the web)
when I start the unit, the garmin logo appears, and then shuts down.
I cannot do a reset or get in the pre-boot screen
on USB power/cable, the logo appears but that is all
I can see the unit in EXPLORER and in the files structure (I took the SD card from the unit) I can move files around (the garmindevice.xml is goen though...) but where to start? Like I said, things must have been completely messed up.
Is the a way to "rebuild" the Nuvi 510 completely (since I can access the unit via explorer)??
Or rebuild is as a zumo 220, I do not care, as long as the unit will work! :-)
Have you dragged the .rgn in updater.exe before trying to get preboot? Usually you can see the gps for few seconds in updater window, this is the moment to flash it.
If it works try kunix's cure
You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Hello all, just came home from a day riding my bicycle and motorcycle.
Popotnik sent me a kind mail with a how-to which I will try tomorrow.
Thnak you all for helping/feeling my pain!
Thank you Loly, I am back to my Nuvi 510!
The change to make it a Zumo 510 (220 image) was succesful, but updating the maops using Garmin Express (I have the official lifetime update) messed things up.
so unless I find out how to solve that, I will not make the Nuvi a zumo 510 agian...
And thanks to Redstrom too!!!!!!
And when your screen says "Loader" during the fix, just LEAVE it... it does take a while to fix....
