ok, the miracle didn't happen.
It looks like your device's flash chip is broken, so my cure isn't what you need.

is there a way to confirm that flash chip is broken. Can you please help me to figure out the sd card method. Why updater.txt commands are not executed. This post [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] hints that if you are not able to use the sd card method to erase/program region then the flash chip is broken.
Try running the following update.txt (not updateR.txt):
And check if any new files are created near it (last_id.bin and update.log), and post update.log contents.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
Then try running this:

Yes it workedlast_id.bin was created and update.log was updated. I had an empty update.log file there already. Contents of update.log
nüvi 12xx Series Software Version 5.80, UID: "10 digit serial" , HWID: "10 digit serial"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parsing "ergn,14"
Error
Parsing "reboot"
For second experiment I had deleted the last_id.bin and also cleared the update.log.
last_id.bin was again created. Contents of update.log
nüvi 12xx Series Software Version 5.80, UID: "10 digit serial", HWID: "10 digit serial"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parsing "ergn,"
Error
Parsing "reboot"
Here is a similar log for my nuvi 14xx.
So you can see that "ergn,14" is a valid command. And it worked, as I've got 16MB 14.bin full of 0xFF bytes.
In your case the same command gives an error.

Try copying/deleting 48?
I can save regions to sd card but erasing or copying a good region bin from another nuvi using xrgn gives an error. I have tried copying files from internal flash but most file/directory names have misding letters such as voices folder will be ices etc. many file names have _ in front. erasing files in internal flash using del does not result in error but the file is not deleted. Does anyone know how to use the fftl command. I suspect it is only applicable to mtd devices. any ideas on copy_image. does it use rgn file? As a last resort refresh command can be tried. please let me know your best guesses. I will try them out and post results.
I tried to lookup the chipset used in 1xxx it might be the cartesian chip sta2062 from ST Micro. I could not find manual for this chip. If more information is available then an attempt can be made to directly erase the nand flash areas using flash controller. this program can be loaded via usb pre loader. Does any one know the nand flash part number. Nand flash might not be bad just corrupted enough to prevent usage of ergn/xrgn commands.
No normal datasheet for Cartesio... if you find it, please write me PM.
5 page datasheet won't cut it. A detailed programming manual is required which has peripheral description and register addresses. While searching for sta2062 I have found couple of companies using this chip in their design [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I saw it mentioned in linux 2.6 usb device driver [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but not all drivers. There was also a masters thesis in Italian but is too big for google translate.
