New version 3.80 is available: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
This release adds the support of D2 Delta devices (I'm quite sure nobody needs this anyway) and includes all the recent patcher definitions - i.e. patterns for GPSMAP 66 and Edge Explore 4.00, 4.10, and recognition of Edge 1030 Bontrager, Astro 900, Rino 7xx GMRS and several localized models.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for maintaining it. Recently, the firmware for GPSMAP 62/78 devices has updated to 7.20. This version is not mentioned in the table on your site. Could you clarify the status (GPSMAP 62S)?

    Swall,

My scripts checking for the updates on Garmin servers didn't show 7.20 last time I've run them - 7.10 was the most recent version.
It's only now 7.20 appeared. The firmware seems to be patched just fine, but I couldn't test it in my GPSMAP 62s yet.

That's OK. Every device owner (including me) can check if it's actually working. But only the author can make sure it's working as designed. So you're saying that you've looked into the new binary and have found nothing that prevents the current patcher from processing this firmware properly, correct?

    Not quite correct.

The patcher itself is the best tool to check if a firmware can be correctly processed.
Its search patterns intentionally include a lot of redundant bytes just to prevent false positives.

So, if a firmware is patched it should work, and if it's not patched, new pattern should be added

Thanks for the clarification about the design's maturity. Anyway, who knows what Garmin is going to do. Each version comes with the risk of protection hardening. I've installed the 7.20 and it seems there are no complications, fortunately. The characteristics are kept (MAP: Yes | GMA: Yes | MSV: ---). As for Garmin signature verification (GSV), your patcher is an excellent tool to verify that there are no improvements in that regard as well (hopefully). So I'm going to try it soon and report the results here

Yep. No problems with the 7.20 FW on GPSMAP62s. It works. Thanks Garmin, thanks Alex

Ive tried to get this patcher to work with my Astro 430, first with fimware 3.40, then 3.30 then 3.20. they all seemed to work but the unit gives me the authentication failure everytime at startup. And I cant get it to read any gmapsupp.img. they are also unlocked and works fine on my Astro 320.
    I started to investigate inside the *.gma file and saw that it does'nt matter witch firmware I install it only reads inside "A s t r o 4 3 0 _ A l p h a 5 0 _ 3 4 0 _ P a t c h e d . g c d".
Any conclusions? What am I missing?

    EDIT

The Astro 430 ive been patching keeps giving me authentication failure at startup. But reads 'some' unlocked maps. Not the one ive been testing all the time... That specific map does work on all devices but not this one?
anyhow, this Astro 430 is specified as "EUV3" if that has something to do with anything. the map is readable on a Astro 430 EUV2.

    Best Regards

Forgive my dumb question... Does this mean I can use my birdseye data I have already paid for on my dakota 20 on my oregon 650 with a patch firmware?

You can also transform all your .jnx files (old and new) into .img files directly usable in your two GPS
To do this, you must transform them using the JNX2IMG software.
