This is the latest DEM (Digital Elevation Model) routable Basemap, it will update your preloaded one, but not necessary to update it IMHO

DEM are for displaying shadings on terrain
The standard map coverage includes: (but it depends on regions)
Oceans, rivers, major streams and lakes (greater than 5 sq. miles)
Principal cities and urban areas, with many smaller cities and towns
Major interstates, principal highways, and State/Province level roads
Political boundaries (state and international borders)
Major Airports
Railroads

thnx catymag i replaced the 5.00 version winth my old one(2.00) and it worked..and this time i dont know why the cyclops didnt disepear...but i noticed that in some places like roundabouts...the image stay still ...it blockes....

i know why beacause now when i navigate it sows me all the personaized poi so my gps its alittle bit old and it doesnt suport that much

you must put the gmap folder in
(in XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps) or
(in Vista, Windows 7 - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps)
you'll have it then in Mapsource

I am using XP, dragged and droppped the folder from desktop to the folder on C: then extracted the files to that location. Contents of the folder are CNNT NA 2011.31 gmapprom.rar (parts 1-6) and a gmapprom.img file. re-opened mapsource and same result, map product not installed. Exit everything, restarted computer, same result, map product not installed.
Also have seperate desktop folder with CNNT NA 2011.30. It contains CNNT NA 2011.30 gmap.rar (parts 1-5) and a CNNT NA 2011.30 gmap folder. Repeated the procedure as directed with the same results, map product not installed.

gmapprom.img is the map image to drop directly in your gps, not a mapsource installation

read my previous reply for the gmap folder , unrar the folder and drag in the right path; you must have Mapsource software installed

I thought I had mapsource installed. It opens and I seem to be able to use it. There are just not any installed maps inside of mapsource. I am totally lost! I never expected this much trouble, my brain is frazzled and there is smoke coming from my ears. maybe I will try tomorrow with a better outlook.

one dumb, quick question about Mapsource 6.16.3 + Patched release. Do I patch mapsource with this download, or is this the mapsource software with the patch already installed, thereby rendering the "patch it" step in the tutorial irrelevant?

you must download the official one, then find&open Mapsource folder and replace the original exe with the patched one.
(you can rename the old one with someting like Mapsource nonpatched.exe) after that, create a shortcut to you desktop from the patched one, replacing the original.
Usually this explaining is present in every MS patch release thread, if not in the last one I'll add now

Can you see the map in Mapsource ?
