OSM based Map of Sahara & Northern Africa (Openfietsmap)
just returned from another 4x4 trip across Morocco I had various maps on my Garmins to compare.
Tracks4Africa and CN NorthernAfrica were not used due to poor Offroad content.
Most helpful was the free map from Openfietsmap (1). It's routable and very detailed even in small towns wih many POIs, especially lots of petrol stations and camp sites, some topographic features like rivers and forests but no contour lines. Offroaders find many trails and tracks. This map is designed for cyclists so routing on roads avoids generally 4-lane highways and ignores oneway roads.
The Garmin Topo Morocco v2 (2) shows more topographic details and contourlines, but pistes and 4x4 trails are mostly missing. It is basicly routable but many crossings seem not connected properly which leads frequently to ridiculous detours.
Island-Olafs Free Topo Morocco map (3) was last updated in 2007 and a good choice for years but is now a bit outdated. This map is still a source for some hidden 4x4 trails but is not routable, city maps are poor and recently built highways are missing.
Here is the same area shown on these 3 maps:
Custom maps from Openfietsmap (choose 'Routable Bicycle / Openfietsmap Lite') can be composed here:
Your map will be compiled individually and you receive a download link within a short delay
Here is a recently composed img map ready-to-use containing Sahara countries / Africa north of Lat 17° from Morocco to Sinai (274MB): [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
(maybe a Mod transfers the map to a more long-term location?)
Enjoy

Thanks, added it to Map Index, that should be long-term enough.

The zippyshare link has expired but it was for a map made 11 months ago anyway. You can make the same map from the OSM link selecting 'Routable Bicycle (Openfietsmap Lite)' as said by Doc_Koordinate in the initial post. Check 'Enable manual tile selection' then select the tiles shown in his Post #3 to recreate the map with up-to-date data.
Or you can wait for someone to maybe do it and post a new link. I know which will be faster for you ....
