Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?

If it is not work it is mean you have not oldschool foretrex 401 with ID 006-B1021-00 and 006-B1020-00. I did not read your first post with big passion because for oldschool foretrex it was the first step for repair to do "non-volume reset" with batteries trick. Now I have read the post and my ruined brain say me what no masstorage and so garmindevice.xml in this devices.
What ID do you have for your unprecedented animal?

my device has the same problem but software verion is 3.60(360),did you solve this problem?
@Omari Flash
This thread is from 2014 however i have an indistinct recollection that the OP did not find a solution to the orange screen problem.
The latest official firmware for Foretrex 301_401 devices with HWID 1020 is V2.60, issued by Garmin in October 2011:
If your Foretrex's GarminDevice.xml has "<PartNumber>006-B1020-00</PartNumber>" with "<SoftwareVersion>360</SoftwareVersion>" (rather than <SoftwareVersion>260</SoftwareVersion>) then it's likely had modified firmware flashed at a minimum.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
Do you know the history of the device regarding such possible modifications?

Hi guys
I've got a garmin foretrex 401 with a firmware problem,I open the device the screen shows nothing, but the LED and buttons are work, like “orange screen”
I tried to reflash the firmware by Garmin Express, webupdater and pasted a copied GarminDevice.xml file from another functional Foretrex 401(the GarminDevice.xml file Version of that functional device was 2.60 )
I tried reflashing it with Garmin Express at first. However, the firmware version on the problematic device remained 3.60 — the same before and after the reflash.
Then I tried the webupdater(I forgot the software version),it worked but not for too long. my foretrex showed the items on screen but the UI was laggy on the menu (the Interface with setup,jumpmaster,waypoints...etc.) I tried to restart the device to fix this problem, but when i restart it,it turned “orange screen” again
That was all I know for now,but something wrong/diffrent I noticed (I will send some pic):
1.The problem GPS connect to my PC shows the GPS as disk(not like the functional one as a device )
2. the firmware version showing in the GarminDevice.xml file was“<SoftwareVersion>360</SoftwareVersion>” I think someone Reflashed a wrong firmware or something before I bought it(The GarminExpress shows“Version:3.60)
3.I wrote above that I tried to copy a GarminDevice.xml file version 2.60 from another functional Foretrex 401 and try to use that file to replace the problem xml file into the problem gps. When I started the problem device after i pasted the right GarminDevice.xml and replaced it, the device deleted the right version file and rebuild a GarminDevice.xml file has got “<SoftwareVersion>360</SoftwareVersion>”
That is all I know,I'm wondering someone can help me to fix this GPS, thx.

You post above was moved here because we prefer not to have multiple identical topics and you'd previously posted here 5 months ago about the same issue.
It does seem that like the OP here, you may have purchased a HWID 1020 foretrex which has had modified US/EU fw loaded or it's been cross-flashed with an incompatible version from a different device. It may even be the same device lolypop000 owned with the fw version now changed from 3.20 to 3.60. Regardless, even if it's actually a different device, it's clearly been messed around with and possibly badly software-bricked.
You can't fix this problem by using GarminExpress or WebUpdater with a modified GarminDevice.xml. Both of those programs place a fw file named gupdate.gcd into the device's internal memory to be flashed on-board at the next complete boot cycle. During the boot, the XML is re-written by the device before the device even looks for a new GCD file.
The only way to perhaps successfully write new fw is to use Updater.exe to flash an RGN file in preboot mode if you can access that, or, if it has a media card slot and the fw contains the correct "RRGN" commands, it might be possible to use BIN files on a media card. Post info about its capabilities of preboot and media card and i will try to help you flash official V2.60 back to it:
