Default Garmin Speed Camera updates over 30 days

Garmin Speed Camera updates over 30 days

I have been keeping track of Speed Camera update for the last 30 days.
As you can see there are not many from each country.

I only update the speed camera's every 2 months or just before I go on a trip.
Mind you I get Speed Cameras every week from Garmin Express.
    Sometimes 2 times per week.

This time I kept all of them in a files just to see how much is really updated.

    Spoiler: see screen shot

I think Garmin should just update every 30 days and not have updates that do not amount to anything every time you turn on Garmin Express.

A lot of countries have not updated at all.....
The chances of missing a new speed camera some place in the country you are driving in is a shot in the dark.....

Are you only comparing file sizes in Kilobytes/Kibibytes? Note there will be a rounding factor - i.e., Windows will report a file of, say, 900 bytes as "1 KB" because it rounds. You can right-click and select "Properties" to see the file's exact size in bytes and even if they are the same size, the only way to really compare those files for information changes is to check their hashes or compare the 2 files in a hex program such as HexCmp.

Historically, there are some known anomalies such as AU/NZ and Eastern Europe not being updated despite they appear to be so. See note at the base of initial post here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Also, albeit unrelated, in modern terms 1 KB = 1000 bytes and 1 KiB = 1024 bytes. Note that Windows uses the original binary kilobyte (1024 bytes), so when it says "KB", it is stubbornly resisting the 'new' definition of the decimal 1000 bytes.

My examples were only to show any type of movement in regards to speed Camera updates per countries in the last 30 days.

The whole point of my post was to show users that there is no need to download so called updates from Garmin ever time they are posted here or when they show up in Garmin Express.

Once a month should cover any updating of Speed Cameras.......

If users have the need to update these Speed Cameras that many times go for it.

But in most cases it does not bring much of anything if you do not update every time they are posted......

The chances of running into a new speed camera is so very small to begin with.

I was not referring to what you spelled out in your post about.....

Ok sorry if i've offended you inadvertently. I fully realised that you were trying to give other members a heads-up on the relative pointlessness of updating safety cam files repeatedly in a short period.

My post remains valid however in regard to users assuming GPI files of the same size in KB, as shown in your screenshot, are quite identical and so was querying if you had otherwise checked them for data change. I was however agreeing with and also adding to your general information, certainly not in any way attempting to dispute it.
