Have Nuvi xx, suddenly once I connected to my PC it say need to format the ROM, And I do it. WHY, WHY, WHY????
Just because Windows gives this message to format users format their Garmin Unit memory!!!!!!
They have no idea why they got this message much less know what they are doing in the first place.
First of all is the Garmin working??
Why are you connecting it to your PC is it to add a new maps or POI's or add a voice file?
So If you get this warning from Windows you have to ask yourself why.
Every time a uses get this message on Windows PC to format the Garmin they do it. STOP, STOP, STOP
I do not understand why a user goes to the deep end of the pool and formats the Garmin only to screw up.
This is now happening now once a week a user does this doing this absurd thing and formats the ROM of the Garmin.
You remove the Garmin from the PC and if it is working then forget about the message you need to format the Garmin.
I have never seen this message on any of my many Garmin units. Plus I would question any message that Windows is telling me.
But time and again users go right away and format their Garmin unit without thinking only to brick it.
What comes next is a back and forth long discussion how to get it to work again.
Most time this goes on and on back and forth and the user still cannot make it work.
So you have to question any message Windows gives you in regards to and Garmin unit you might connect to your PC or Laptop and stop and think about what you are about to do.
Do not go the deep end of the pool and format the Garmin only because Windows telling you to do that.
Think about what you are doing and stop before you brick your Garmin. Go over what you are really trying to do be before you screw things up. Check to see if you are using a Garmin cable to connect to your PC or Laptop. If so try a different cable that is a Garmin cable.
But most of all question why you are getting this message in the first place and stop and remove the Garmin. Shut your Garmin down and the PC or Laptop and try again. If the message comes again and the Garmin Unit is working then forget that message and go on to what you were planning to do with the Garmin.
But do not format you Garmin only because Windows is telling you to do that. Save yourself a lot of headaches in the long run. Trouble shoot what I am trying to do with my Garmin and why.
Just close that message and connect to Garmin Express.
If it is to replace the maps with newer version then install them it does not go very fast.
If you are just adding new maps without Garmin Express that you got from somewhere make sure you put them in the correct place and with the correct name.
As for no voices:
Did you turn them off?
What voices are you trying to use?
Did you get the voices from Germin Express by going to?
Tools and Content
Then Utilities
Optional Updates
Then Language
Did you pick the Language you want to download?
If everything was working and you do not have any sound ask yourself did I turn it off or put the volume to low.
But do not format the memory of the Garmin Unit because Windows is giving you a message to do so.
Think about what you are trying to do and why.
Please stop deleting files in the Garmin memory you know nothing about or why they are there.
I have seen and read this in many forums about deleting files that the user knows nothing about and just deletes them.
Then there is the SD Card.
How many times has a user formatted the memory of the Garmin Unit thinking he or she was formatting the SD Card.
Stop what you are about to do and remove the SD card from the Garmin Unit.
Then do what every you need to do to the SD Card but not while it is in the Garmin Unit.
Try to think before you do anything to a Garmin GPS UNIT and ask yourself am I going to brick because I do not know what I am doing??????
Better to ask the questions first about what you want to do in this forum before you screw everything up...........
