Do you have a basemap in Nuvi? Have you made a hard reset after updating ?

    You will lose Favourites,
Backup by making a copy of current.gpx rename to current1.gpx and put back in GPX folder.

    Power off the nüvi
Press and hold the bottom-right corner of the touchscreen
    Power it on
A prompt will ask you “are you sure you want to delete all user data?”

Is it the OEM [original genuine Garmin] car charger or an after-market [non-genuine] one?

The basemap isn't old and it wouldn't matter much if it was, but it's the latest one anyway.

What is more likely than the basemap causing you grief is possibly a problem with either your detail map or the JCV file or even maybe your POIs. Back them up and replace them with fresh downloads. But first try clearing NV after you back up your gpx folder [if it's important to you]. To clear NV: From the Map screen, press 'Speed', then press and hold in the centre of the Speedometer for several seconds>Developer Info>Nonvol Available>Clear Nonvol. This is even more comprehensive than a Hard Reset and will virtually take the unit back to Factory Settings. Also, has the unit got V6.20 fw? If it has reload it with WebUpdater anyway, if it's earlier definitely update it after the clear NV. Then clear NV again after the fw is reloaded or updated.

That wasn't what I asked you about the charger's desctiption. What i mean is that some cheap non-genuine chargers will throw the unit into Mass Storage mode temporarily. A genuine Garmin car charger will never do that unless it's faulty.

The Basemap is correct "worldwide autoroute DEM Basemap,NR 5.01" (latest)
Nuvi 1xxx do suffer from slow refresh sometimes.
Try to Reduce the number and size of maps in your Nuvi.(Make a smaller region)
If you have loaded a gmapdem.img remove it.
Reduce GPI Files (Large Custom POI files can slow down operation)
Delete unused Voices and Texts (Backup first)
The Charger issue is normal if you are not using a genuine Garmin Car Charger

Basemap is ok and it's worldwide as its name states, may be your disappearing map has been made with Mapsource and not with Mapinstall,or hasnt been properly unlocked , hard to understand what may be wrong.
Hint: use original locked .img and unlock by yourself,or better, download original map pc install unlock and use Mapinstall to load it in gps.
Btw ,can you post in map thread or in already existing threads? Hard to discover what are you talking about.
