    Will try it

That link i gave you to Caty's Post #2 in the GMapTool thread was only so you could check that the MS Flag was correctly set on the map img you wanted to view in BaseCamp [BC can't see it if the flag is set to '1', it must be '0']. Sorry if i confused you.

I can use both MapSource and the latest versions of BaseCamp and MapInstall with my SP 2610 & 2720. Keep in mind that any image you compile using those programs will be sent to your 2720 named as gmapsupp.img. If there is an existing gmapsupp.img [second detail map] already present it will be overwritten and the primary detail map [gmapprom.img] will be unaffected. So if you are wanting to add a second detail map those programs are fine to use, but if you want to overwrite your existing primary map gmapprom.ing just use the method in Post #3 of this thread as Caty recommends.

The instructions on Page 1 of this thread are not using MapSource though to actually send the image to the unit [in Post #2 it's just talking about one way to pre-compile the image ready to send it. So if you already have an image made you don't need MS to make it]. The idea is for invoking WebUpdater with command line/bat file to do the job of transferring the primary detail map image, gmapprom.img. Perhaps you just typed MapSource when you meant WebUpdater. If you are actually still confused over this, post again saying what you're unsure of.

It is also possible to delete a secondary map named gmapsupp.img with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] using the 'Erase maps in GPS' button. So when you get your 2720 if it has more than one map loaded you can remove the second one if you want to.

Don't forget also when you get your NA 2720 to check which basemap it has loaded. If it has the Americas one, you may want to try to replace it with the Pacific one as I advised you in the ID map thread. You may be able to put a world one on if you have room.

I just try to open Navigasi net Indonesia map those basecamp could not open it,
and i follow your instruction to use GMap Tool and it show up on Basecamp.

Garmin City Navigator ID map just to crowded when i see, is that everything showing on basecamp will show on GPS too ?

Ok so post #3 will erase the original NA Map and it will put Indonesia Map right ?
I plan to put those Navigasi Map as second map, can you give me a link about the way to add it on GPS

Your SP2610 so its basically 2GB max
What i still confuse is, how big storage at SP2720 ?

The setup.exe file from Navigasi gives you the choice of building a full default image file gmapsupp.img directly onto your computer hard drive for transfer to your unit, or installing a MapSource [PC] version from which you can create a partial or full map to send to your GPS. Regardless of which method you use, the resultant map image will have an MS Flag of 1, so it cannot be viewed directly in BC without changing it to 0. But of course if you use the installed version, that can be viewed in BC or MS anyway. So i guess you've used GMapTool just to change the flag on the image file.

The crowding is probably because you had checked 'Detail Level' previously when you were really only viewing the Global map not the actual CN. Uncheck it and see if the detail is less cluttered but even with Detail Level ticked the Garmin CN map seems ok to me:

What you see in MS/BC is not necessarily what will show on the GPS screen anyway. In my 2610 under Menu>Map Setup>Map Detail there is a choice of 'Most, More, Normal, Less, Least'. I leave mine on Normal usually.

To place a second map as gmapoem.img in the 2720 just use exactly the same procedure in Post #3 as for gmapprom.img with the name changed accordingly and rgn=50 [should work, i haven't tried it and it may not be selectable/de-selectable anyway], or much better method is to use MapInstall with a PC version to send what you want to the unit memory named as gmapsupp.img anyway.

The 2720 has 750MB of on board memory available for maps etc to be loaded [as far as i can recall]. There is quite a good review by Joe Mehaffey written at the time of it's release. The page link is below which will give you far more info than the Garmin spec page also below:

    Thank for reply

From that site, its only says 750MB free for additional map
So if i overwrite those map, it possible to get bigger space (ID Map less than 200MB) ?

Yes. 750MB was available over and above the already loaded NA mapping. So, as the OEM detail map is more in size than the ID map you intend to load then you should have even more free space after you replace it. US/CA V7 was OEM and would have been far more than 200MB, probably closer to 700MB back then, so I'm guessing maybe the flash drive is 1.5GB in the 2720.

    Hallo Neil
How to see avaiable space ? i have searching on SP2720 menus and did not find it

    ===========================================================================

    Add information
I had an test on this 2720, this device actually only drawn less than 0.2A (fluctuated) at 13.8VDC with 3 satellite locked (i'm inside home) so my guess that 1A is really peak value.
And this device still running fine to voltage 7,5VDC.
below than that value its start to striped screen

Default Removing Locked Maps from Garmin 2720

I had previously installed the 2014.20 map on my 2720. without any issues. This time I goofed someplace and now shortly after power up the Message "Maps Are Locked" shows.

I have checked on the unit for the maps installed but no maps are shown. Any ideas on how to eliminate this problem will be greatly appreciated. I do have all the keys and numbers that came eith the unit. Right now the unit is just a brick and I do love this GPS and don't want to lose it.

    Regards
    John

    Welcome to Noeman Road rider.

I moved your post into this thread because it's relevant here.

I assume you used one of the methods described on Page 1 here or a similar one to update your primary detail map. It is most likely you have loaded a locked image to your 2720. You don't need to remove the map, you can simply overwrite it with an unlocked image. Use gmapprom.img with the command line from bat file, or gmapsupp.img from MapInstall/MapSource to overwrite it depending on the name you've used for it [probably it's gmapprom].
