    Default Android Auto

I like to buy an update for my car, an aftermarket kit with Android Auto. Ik know Google Maps, Waze and Sygic works for navigation on Android Auto, the kit has a mirror function. I like to start Tomtom NDS om my phone and mirror this on de big car screen. has anybody try this en does it look sharp?

Not exactly, I stream from my rooted Android phone to the unmodified car screen with Android Auto. I use AA stream with Android Auto and it sets the resolution to that of the car screen. I assume it is scaling up, looks pretty sharp, very good, but not 100%. I tested TomTom NDS and Go.

    @Mauritsz
If you want to use TomTom with Android Auto, why not try-out > TomTom AmiGO - GPS, Speed Camera & Traffic Alerts 7.420.0.8221
Now TomTom Amigo are available for Auto Android in the Playstore with speed camera and is integrated in the Auto Android Launcher
TomTom AmiGO - GPS, Speed Camera & Traffic Alerts 7.420.0 (Early Access) (arm64-v8a + arm-v7a) from and up (Android 5.0+).

The TomTom NDS app has always had SmartDeviceLink via Bluetooth to a comparable SmartDeviceLink Car radio.
Android 7 or higher is required for it to work.
It first came for Toyota Cars in South America.

    I quote TomTom:

    "STAY CONNECTED
SDL connection: Connect your phone and car to view and control the app from your display.
TomTom Traffic: Get intelligent routes that avoid traffic in real-time.*
Speed Cameras: Advanced warnings notify you about upcoming speed cameras.*
Online Search: Look up any destination on the go with our up-to-date database.*
Share ETA: Let others know your arrival time and location using any messaging channel of your choice."

And for users who want to read about SmartDeviceLink (SDL) see link below:

The disadvantage it's using offline maps, I like to have the maps on my phone.

Thanks, I try to find some screenshots of Youtube material. It's difficult to imagine how sharp it will look in the real world.

Offline line maps are maps that are on your phone........

If one wants all to work on a GPS app you need to have a data connection.

But here is the problem when it comes to TomTom GPS apps.

    Some users want Android Auto

Some users want it to work on Head units

With TomTom have a very larger pallet of products they can not please everyone.

The have stand alone units, 3 GPS app, and factory installed GPS in car radios from some car companies.
They are not like Sygic who only has GPS apps.

Garmin has tried a couple of times with GPS app and has failed.

They too have stand alone units and GPS in car radios from some car companies.

This all comes down to marketing and profit line.
What will make money and what will not.

It has been over 6 months since TomTom started beta testing Android Auto on one product.
I do not seeing dropping SmartDeviceLink on TomTom NDS they have invested to much time in it.
Then will they really go with Go TomTom with AA???? (For now it works with Apple CarPlay)

You can please some of the people some of the time but never all of the people all the time........

A guy here suggested to use TomtomAmigo but I don't like it because it has no maps installed on the phone. Maps are downloaded while driving by 3 or 4G from telco's. That cost $$ and is impossible in remote areas without coverage.

So like to do wireless mirroring Tomtom NDS on Oneplus telephone to my aftermarket Android set. I hope it will be a sharp image on the existing screen in the car.

About one week waiting and the package will be here in the country (I hope!) My car is a BMW 1 series 2016 included with NBT head unit.
I like my Tomtom nav, it's much better than BMW nav.

So I do mirroring on my Andream box en now I can see movies, television broadcast while I'm driving. See how Tomtom NDS looks like this on a BMW 6.5 inch nav screen. Oneplus 6 telephone is USB wired and connected to the box. The box is hidden behind the panel situated beneath the radio/airco panel. I also have Android Auto with other nav apps like Waze, Google Maps.

Looks nice but the Andream box is very expensive.

I buy it from Aliexpress that was the cheapest way. Main reason was the BMW carnav soft is terrible. Ik bought the lastest map update 2021-1, but it has errors. One way streets in cities are not known, it directs you always to closed streets. Now I can choose between the BMW or Andream and Tomtom NDS on display. iDrive and buttons on the steering wheel are still working.
I'm now driving with Sygic open beta for Android Auto. Tomtom Navigation for AA is beta, but it is closed. I was too late to join
My 1st goal Tomtom NDS mirorring on the carscreen gives less quality picture.
