Alternate routing on Tomtom

IS there a way of calculating a route based on avoiding a particular road. For example if I am going north and I know the M1 is block and therefore should be avoided, how do I get tomtom to navigate for me without it keep trying to take me back to the M1>

I suspect you have to cycle through the alternatives that TomTom gives you. Usually, you can use Route Planning to plan which route you want to take to avoid certain roads (toll, highway, etc.)
