Tool Coverting nuvi 1490 to 1490t

I saw a user that stated the 1490t has the option to show the upcoming street when driving without an active route, i have a nuvi 40 that has that function and need the 1490 to have it too. Will flashing the 1490t firmware give the function and is it even possible? Since i dont know if these two models have same cpu and such, ive seen a few conversion threads between different models (ie 37xx to 47xx). I have knowledge restoring firmware via cure and preboot, but im unsure if the device can be bricked beyond recovery possibility.

    Where did you see that?

The "T" in the model number (nuvi 1490T shown on the box) only indicates that the device was packaged with a FM traffic receiver in the box. The actual device is still a nuvi 1490.

These's absolutely no difference between the firmware used by any 14x0 model. That is: 1400, 1410, 1450 and 1490 all use the same firmware. In fact the 13x0 series also uses the exact same firmware. There are various features which are 'locked out' of some models and can be activated by flashing the senior logo to region 16, however 1490 has all of those and additionally the Routes function which can also be added to the junior models by manipulating the firmware.

ive seen a few conversion threads between different models (ie 37xx to 47xx).
I think you mean 34xx not 47xx. That's because the 3700 and 3400 series share the same hardware and have identical PCB P/N's but run different firmware.

Thanks for the info, so, is there any way to have upcoming street on the Green bar like on the nuvi 40?
For reference, this was the thread I was reading:

No, not any practical way to add it on the top green banner which presently shows only the road being travelled on when not actually routing... and i should have made that clearer perhaps. To alter the firmware in such a way as to change that, if indeed it's even possible, you'd likely need the firmware's original source code (unobtainable of course) along with considerable hacking skills to modify the 14xx fw to include the function. Way above any amateur's capabilities even with access to the source code anyway.

However when using the device as a moving map, you can see the upcoming side-street name on the map itself. If they don't show in your 1490's map screen in default magnification then go to Tools>Setting>Map and select "Most" in Map Detail.
