Default Garmin nuvi 2597 HWID 2077 can't load unlocked EU map

I copied the map file gmapsupp.img to a microSD card under /Garmin directory, then inserted into the GPS.

My GPS gives error messages: Cannot unlock maps, then a second error message says "the maps are either corrupted or ..."

I checked from PC side when connected with my GPS, BaseCamp is able to load the map, when I checked the map status, it was indicated as "unlockable", so I believe it's not an issue of locked map.

Any idea? Any way to make it work?

    Thanks in advance.

If the map was actually properly unlocked that's the status it would show as in BaseCamp Maps>Manage Map Products (BC can see both locked and unlocked images btw). So "Not Lockable" doesn't mean it's unlocked universally. The other 'corrupted' message means that your device has protected firmware which cannot use unlocked maps in any case. Search for "gimunlock-0.04" and "Universal Firmware Patcher", but unfortunately you'll not get direct help in this forum because use of both of those contravene Garmin EULAs. Read: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (Rule #9).

    Appreciate your answer.
I tried gimgunlock-0.04, didn't help. Looked at a page for "Universal Firmware Patcher", found it's hard to determine what my case really needs plus being lack of time, so I decided not to go for it.
Then I found on ebay there is a map for Spain and Portugal and the price was acceptable, so I bought the map, saved the .img file under Garmin folder on a microSD, so simple, nothing more, and it works!

Your HWID 2077 C4 device has a strong form of protected firmware so it's incapable of using unlocked Garmin proprietary mapping data unless you or someone else has loaded patched firmware to it.
    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
    Explanation:
    • "MSV" is Map Signature Verification, when using unlocked Garmin maps with original [i.e. unpatched] firmware they fail the verification check (on-screen message about corrupt maps).
    • "GVS" is GUPDATE.GCD Software Verification i.e. the patched firmware [software] cannot be loaded conventionally as a GCD file because it will fail that verification process and must therefore be loaded for initial patching EITHER as an RGN file in preboot mode using Updater.exe OR by patched BIN files via txt commands executed by Ldr.bin on a microSD card.

Your Possible Scenarios: The device is indeed running patched firmware OR if it's still got original fw then the map you purchased isn't an unlocked Garmin-issued map, maybe it's a (freely available) OSM.

Credit to user FireFox58 for the attached file (big thank you to her/him). Google HWID 2077 C4 patch if you want to read more.

Load the attached file in the Garmin folder of an SD card, reboot your Garmin 2597 LMT (It should be switched off totally, and restart), and Bob is your uncle!
