On my Nuvi 3790 I use sdhc 32 GB with no problem.
1xxx, 2xxx, 3xxx can use at least 64GiB microSDXC reformatted to FAT32. 64GiB is the largest i've tried so far but i'm sure larger will work ok in them too. I don't think the problem is in the actual size of the card, but in the sheer number of maps and map tiles that a large card could physically hold. It would easily exceed the unit's capabilities to read them. I've yet to try a really large card in an older Nuvi, like 2xx etc.

Updated table from Garmin April 2013:
Don't trust it so much,I have a 8 gb sd in my 62 and it works fine
You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Hi,
Only 8 Gb for Montana ?
I have a Sandisk 64 Gb reformatted in FAT 32 filled with .jnx and .img files which works well under the limit of 4000 map tiles accepted by Montana.
@sergio2
I agree that the card size itself seems to be of little consequence. It's the number of map image files and map tiles that's the limitation as you said [see post #64, my reformatted 64GiB also works fine in nuvis too]. I think Garmin just has to keep a cap on this because if they broadcast that 64GiB cards formatted in FAT32 are usable, ppl will fully load them up and then Garmin will be swamped with queries as to why maps don't work.
An interesting aberration seems to be the new Oregon 600/650t, listed as having a 64GB [really 64GiB] MicroSD SDHC limit. You cannot buy such a card. That's a 64GiB SDXC which can only be bought pre-formatted to exFAT. Do they mean that the new oregons can read exFAT? Or is their referring to 64GB SDHC just a strange way of saying that you must reformat to FAT32.. ? Anyone got a 6x0t?

Or may be another explanation could be that new Oregon 600 firmwares have no map tiles limit...................
Yes, that's a reasonable assumption when they say it's got a 64GB size limit. But 64GB SDHC, wottheheck are they talking about?
