I've read this now from front to back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but first you unlock the .img file that I got with the download (which I've done) but do I delete everything on my GPS and drop the file all by itself or do I delete only the .img file in the maps directory and replace with the new unlocked one? The 'how to' is not clear on this, it only says to drop it on the GPS but not specifically where. Thanks again mate.
It depends on devices, some have "Map" directory, some "Garmin" directory, some supports multi anyname.IMGs, some dont.It can depend also on firmware loaded on device.
See in tutorials what is good for you, in "Storing maps in devices" part [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Finally got it working after much hairpulling. The tutorial is not clear at all on how to do this, maybe a site admin should edit it a bit. You leave all your files on your Garmin device intact and only copy the new UNLOCKED .img file over to your (in my case) maps folder. I've got enough space on my device to drop the files straight on it, have not tried my SD card yet, but for now it's working like a charm.
Your post says to unlock the maps with a tool that's included with the download. Apparently you just extract the .img files together with the unlock tool in the same folder and unlock it, but it does not work. The dos window appears and disappears so quick you cant read anything so I screenshot it but it does not tell you much or give you any info to work with. Why is the .img files locked to begin with? Cant it be unlocked and then uploaded for download?
Anyways, thought I should let you know
Thanks for the help
Enjoy

Which post I should correct? If you are talking about a Gmap folder my post says:
Have you downloaded a Mapsource map version (.exe)?
.......
use
UnLock MapSource Directory
or
Protected Garmin File Toolkit v.2.2.3.4
Have you downloaded a Mapsource Gmap folder ?
copy it in:
(in XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps) or
(in Vista, Windows 7 - C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps)
You'll have your map in Mapsource.
To unlock use:
UnLock MapSource Directory
or
Protected Garmin File Toolkit v.2.2.3.4
What's wrong? Let me know
In case of a single .img just drag&drop in the unlocker, you can see a very fast dos window coz the unlocker is superfast Check the result with GmapTool
I think users should learn a bit how to manage their Nuvis or it can be complicated even to update maps and firmwares from Garmin. Reading just few threads helps to understand elementary mechanisms about how it works.
Usually some users posts unlocked maps too, if I can I post original files.
