I'm pretty new ... but I have read dozens of posts and have searched quite a bit before asking this. I have BaseCamp 3.2.2 and i've tried this with and without the patched .exe. So far the only way I've been able to see any map in BaseCamp (or Map Source) is if I have the actual DVD or the MapSource version. I've tried everything I can think of and cannot ever see a gmapsupp.img that is installed on my edge 705 and that works fine on the device.

When I use Gmaptool and open the gmapsupp.img, it will display all the information but the write tab doesn't have the option for the ms bit .... that page just doesn't look at all like the examples I've seen for patching the ms bit to 0 so it will display in basecamp.

What am I doing wrong? I've got several IMG files that work perfectly on the Edge 705 device but I have not been able to get any of them to disply in either basecamp nor Map Source. I had to downgrade mY Mapsource back to 6.15.7 and patch then it will show many of the unlocked maps that won't show with the latest 6.16.3 version .... Do I need to downgrade BaseCamp back to some older version as well in order to see IMG files?

Does the Img file need to be on the main device rather than on the SD card for BaseCamp to see it? The IMG files I want to use are much larger than what will fit in the main memory and have to be installed on the SD card.

    thanks in advance!

    (update)
Ok ... as a test I put CNAusNZ on the main device memory as gmapsupp.img and BaseCamp does see it (woohoo) but it is horribly slow (why oh why is the garmin USB so slow?) .. I always pull the SD card and write directly to it when I'm putting a 2gb gmapsupp.img file on there (super fast that way). But Basecamp cannot see the gmapsupp.img on the SD card though the edge sees it fine. So does this mean I have to unlock the IMG file using the SD card ID instead of using the device ID? Same key sequence on the Edge 705 to get to the diag screen?

As I know Basecamp can display locked maps too in sd.
Update your GmapTool and change MS flag to 0, BC will show your map in sd (in Garmin folder)
Anyway to unlock an img use

Thanks but I'm still not having any luck. I've taken an img files (gmapsupp.img) and unlocked it with v2.1 as you suggested - the Edge 705 reads the map just fine but BaseMap will only see it when it is on the Edge internal memory and will not see it when it is on the SD card. I've downloaded the latest gmaptool I can find (060b) - I open the img file and the only checkboxes I see on the write tab are:
    Mapset
    Set Transparency
    Set Draw Priority
    insert unlock code
    Only for FID

I don't see any checkbox for setting the MS bit. What am I doing wrong?

Ah .... nevermind ... I see it now. I had not checked the "advanced options" ... now that I check that I see where to change the MS bit.

    Thanks for all the help!

Now the only problem I still have is that the USB is so horribly slow on the Edge 705 - it takes over an hour for BaseCamp to finally pull up an IMG file from the SD card (a large img like CN North America or CN Europe or any of the Topo maps - those 1-2gb images).

So I guess the next thing I need to learn is how to get an image to read in BaseCamp and/or MapSource from the hard drive rather than through the USB connection to the garmin device. Is there a good way to convert an image into a gmap format to install on the PC?

You could build a Gmaptool Mapsource version but you'd loose search, not a good option.
Better to download the original gmap folder on forum and have it fully functional in Mapsource and in Basecamp.

Must just have a patched version of both the programs and put the gmap folder in the right path, all the needed infos here:

    read :
Have you downloaded a Mapsource map version?
    and
Have you downloaded a Mapsource Gmap folder ?

or you have this option too

it will be faster in Basecamp than having the img in any sd or garmin device
