The file in post one on RS is still active since 2009, torrents are active for few weeks, that's why we prefere host sites-
Jdownloader is covenient and confortable to download mutipart files, I guess in this case, faster than torrent.

No, that's what I keep trying to tell you - all others are paused and this one has no cap. The EXACT same setup was in place last week and the upload proceeded at ~100kBps to one peer who got the whole thing (based on reported upload size). This is why I don't think it's a seed-side issue, though I explicitly claim to NOT be an expert on torrents.

Upload stats reporting 7.85GB now which suggests at least 2 people have been able to get the whole thing...

I can't promise the initial seed is going to stay up much longer - this is already MUCH more continuous on time than that system normally has for torrents!

I thought that one of the main appeals of torrents was that they were basically self-distributing so would stay active for long periods of time? I don't have a pay account with any of the upload sites, nor do I have a way to produce .RAR files let alone split them. I was hoping there was enough interest that someone with the other qualifications would pull the IMG from torrents and put it into a more user-friendly spot.

Torrents have a disadvantage in that their longevity depends on the desires of the peers to seed. If no one seeds, the torrent dies. Torrents aren't stable for the same reason: the peers have to be willing to send the data if they have it, and not all are willing. Even magnet links aren't perfect. They take away the tracker and thus completely decentralize the process, but it's still subject to the desires of the peers.

JDownloader will pull from these sites even if you only have free access. It will take longer because you still have to wait for X minutes between sections, but will download. Plus JDownloader works around the bandwidth limitation these sites toss up to encourage people to get memberships. Lastly, the information is stored on a server, and thus is always available for someone to download.

For a lot of the stuff I download, I search on Filestube for it first before looking for it on a torrent.

So, wait, you are the seeder? I'm confused as hell. You could not make this statement unless you are seeding. But your previous posts indicate that you are not the seeder. Can you explain? Or are your a peer with only a partial file - if so, how much do you have?

Has anyone tried to use the Jdownloader site? I've never heard of it, but the file is reportedly there as well (see post #35 here).

Also - Update: The torrent file I'm downloading is moving and is at 90.8% on my end. Its slowly making its way @.13k. One of the slowest I've ever seen.

I have an original Vista w/ 24MB internal memory. When I go to Garmin's site it says that the DVD version of TOPO U.S. 100K will work. When I look at your files under this thread it is evident that it will be more than a Gb let alone 24 Mb. Should I try downloading anyway? Thanks for all your help. ~Mark

You need the MapSource version, which you will have to install, and then will have to select a collection of specific regions which will fit in your available memory space and transfer just those to the unit. The single giant IMG file will do you no good unless your unit has a memory card slot...

I should have said that what you want is in post #1 of this thread, that IS the MapSource version - for the whole USA and which the Garmin MapSource application will allow you to select portions of. I was still thinking about the IMG file a few posts up - that is not useful to you right now, but the Post #1 files are.
