There is another set of new Garmin maps. Once again there was a problem with the old tool for contour lines, I have now switched to a proprietary implementation. If someone discovers strange contours, please let me know. The separate map of Germany now only partially contains Czech Republic because it is grown out of a 2GB card. New is the map Germany-North Denmark, Netherlands and Belgium.
If you want to take a look at this free map before downloading 3GB, there is an online version here:

There is now a separate map containing these isles: Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, Mallorca, Corsica and Sardinia.
Corsica and Sardinia are already on the complete map, the others are new.

Hello,
I tried the Wanderkarte (complete Middle Europe, > 3GB, downloaded 2 days ago) as an image with BaseCamp, but the map was not accepted (no valid Garmin map or similar reaction).
Is there a solution to this problem? When installed in MapSource the map is working both in MS and BC, but it is very slow. I didn't try it in my Garmin device till now.
As you stated the map works in Basecamp after installation, it won't draw any faster by mounting the img in Basecamp.
Working with high-detail Topo maps both in Mapsource and Basecamp is easier if you start with the Map-detail set at medium or low, search the region you want to look at, zoom in and finally set the detail to high.
Have you checked that the MS flag (MapSource flag) is 0 in the IMG-file?
Files created with MapSource / MapInstall will get MS flag = 1. BaseCamp needs MS flag = 0 when reading memory card IMG files.
Check the IMG-file with gMapTool. If MS=1 then change that with gMapTool. Enable "☑ Advanced options" and then use "Write" tab and "☑ Set version in header" -> "MS 0".
