On microSD card I have a folder named Garmin. In Garmin folder I have 2 files: openmap.img and Europe3D.img.
I have tried 3.8 and 3.82 firmware without luck. If I rename the file in gmapsupp.img, I can use the map.

Would like to share my experience with the Nuvi 3790. In the MicroSD card, under the /Map directory, multiple maps with any filename can be used simultaneouslySo long the file extension is .img (eg MapOfMyCountry.img), the device will recognise the maps. The only wrinkle is that for this to work, it depends on how the maps (files) are transferred to the MicroSD card :-

    1) If the files are transferred by copying from a PC directly to the MicroSD card which is then inserted into the device, then the device must be shut down (ie not set to Sleep) and restarted. Do this by depressing the Power button for about 4 secs. The message "Turn Off the device?" appears . Tap on "Off" and the device shuts down. Start the device again by pressing the Power button. The devices power up and the text "GARMIN" appears and then goes through the start up process. After the device has restarted, go to Tools > Settings > myMaps. The newly copied files can be seen in the list. Check the maps you want enabled in the device.

    2) The files can also be transferred with the MicroSD card inserted in the device and the device connected to the PC via the USB cable. In this instance, when the device is disconnected from the PC, the device will shut down automatically. Pressing the Power button will restart it and the new files can be seen as per the above.
    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can assist me regarding the Nuvi 3790, I'm trying the methods above for storing multiple maps on a MicroSD card but the maps do not shop in myMaps when they are named as I wish, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

3790 should show maps in Mymap list and they go in Map folder with anyname.img in sd
    Garmin folder only accepts: gmapsupp.img

Thanks for the advice Catymag, I done as you suggested which does show some maps but not others. The CityXplorer maps, US Borders and County overlay, Theme Park maps and some Topo maps fail to show, does this mean these have to be named gmapsupp.img to work? Or does it mean I need a .unl file to have it work? Please forgive my ignorance, I'm a total noob at this. :-S

You cant have routable maps in your unit covering the same region, if they overlap they wont show in gps and you'll have problems.
If a map is unlocked it doesnt need any .unl file. Every kind of .img should show in mylist if put in Map folder with anymame.img.
You can have CX maps , topo maps ,CN maps and select them in mylist .
With City Xplorer maps it's a bit different you can have CN and CX both in your unit,
The CX map is the same than related CN map provides, but you can have both in your unit and select CX in pedestrian mode when you want to use it, in my 3790 by the way, if i forget to deselect it , I can use CN just as pedestrian mode even car mode is selected.

I dont think it's possible coz even if you merge them with Gmaptool ,you'll have a multi selection ,coz FIDs are more than one and Garmin will show a selectable map for every FID.

Sorry, I didn't explain myself well, because of my poor english.

--> I aim to have many selectable boxes, 1 for each img, but I can't!

    My Zumo500 works this way:
-when I merge many img-map-files (coming from the same Garmin map version) in 1 img-map-file using Gmaptool, I obtain only 1 selectable box.
-if I put many img-map-files (coming from the same Garmin map version) in internal device memory naming them with different names such as gmapprom.img, gmapsupp.img, gmapsup2.img and even another gmapsupp.img in SD, I obtain only 1 selectable box as above.
-I can obtain separate selectable boxes ONLY if img-map-files are coming from different versions of Garmin maps.

I guess if it's possible to change file attributes using Gmaptool to simulate that a file is coming from a different Garmin map version.........
