Thread: Alternative Nuvis Firmwares

If you brick your nuvi or you have loop on garmin logo screen here is the cure:

My nuvi 1300 was bricked and wont boot becouse folder text,voice,keyboard was corupt.
I change 0:/ in firmware to 1:/ (you dont need to calculate checksum if you replace 0 to 1).Then i copy folder text,voice,keyboard on SD card and flash nuvi with updater.exe.
Nuvi turn on.
I replace corrupted folder and turn nuvi of and flash with original firmware (not changed firmware) and now work perfect.
If you dont flash with original firmware after repaire you got only english text,keyboard and no sound,but after flash with original firmware your nuvi work like charm.

As I know: 0:/ - means that Navi will find files in internal memory & 1:/ - on SD card.
By the way...

If you change 0x30 to 0x00 you will deactivate nuvi reading all files from the internal memory. Same as 0x31 (SD card). This is better than changing the extensions of the files for a cure.(neadrenalin's suggestion). Even it helps loop because of bad sectors in the memory. I have wrote about it here:

I haven't quite understood what the benefits are by flashing to the Alternative firmware for nuvi 2x5 version SG/MAL
Could someone clear that up for me?

that they have a deluxe firmware on their 14xx series. I have a 1490T and I would like to ask if I put the 1460sg firmware on my nuvi will it be the same as the one shown in the webpage? Has anyone used a deluxe firmware to tell us if it has any difeerences with the one shown there?

Is any problem to download and upgrade with 12xx sg/mal version. I just bought my nuvi 12xx in USA with new firmware 5.30 and just enable jcv file, speed limit and LA. please help

In fact no problem to be flashed with Sing/Mal FW but IMHO the chinese FW is better than Sing/Mal.
