Have you formatted it ? Do you have a back up ? Is it recognized by your pc ?

I have a friend who has a nuvi 600 which does not have the original DVD, the
updates do not work. I install the first map? Mapsource does not have any maps installed. We want to install from scratch

no i did not formatted in fat32 by accident in ntfs.

If you can reformat as FAT32 and mount the Nuvi on your computer, just paste everything back onto it. Otherwise, you will probably need Garmin's help...

If you want an exaustive reply you must be precise:
your sentence doesnt make any sense, it's an img or a mapsource install ?
What are you doing to install the CNE map in your gps?
May be you should read here
