You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Me Again
I get the followong error when i treid to send the maps to my device. "to transfer data to your device select map or create waypoint , route of track.
I have noticed that the installation is in C:\Garmin\FAM_1815 and not in the usual C:\Garmin\Map can that be the cause?
DONE Blond moment.....
Hello all,
sorry, I am new here, but I am so confused with all these different versions of garmin etc.
1 question, will these Southern Africa Topo maps work with Garmin Mobile XT 5? I have it installed on a HTC Touch Diamond (Windows Mobile 6.1) but I currently have no maps for it! As I am off to the berg for a 2 day hike this weekend I would LOVE to have the topo maps on my phone!
Otherwise, any help would be appreciated! (Topo or Street, either would be great!)
Thanks in advance!
Garmin maps will work on every garmin software, on Garmin Mobile XT too, you wont have all the functionalities, no 3D, probably, but it will work

can you please give me link for the East Africa GARMAP v1.1 Unlocked for my unit?
Much appreciated.
thanks.
Extracting maps without running msi installer - manual method.
Running the msi installer (post #21) will certainly install the mapset. However it will also install Mapsource etc.
If you already have a version of Mapsource installed that you want to keep, then you just want the mapset.
With the Garmap maps it is possible to extract the map files and place them in a folder, unlock and then install
with MapSetToolKit. This is a manual method and only worth doing if you really want to avoid running the msi.
To extract the map files a number of tools are required:
WinRAR - to extract files from compressed archives
IrfanView - do batch rename of files (or any other app' that can do batch file rename using a pattern replacement method)
ORCA - the Microsoft msi editor - to read Tables in the msi file (or similar app', see below).
WinRAR and IrfanView are widely available. ORCA usually comes as one app' in The Windows SDK, which is huge (Win 7 SDK is 1.4GB for each of
3 chip types). However the orca.msi installer alone can be found, e.g.:
http://www.technipages.com/download-orca-msi-editor.html
http://www.tips5.com/introductions-to-orca-msi-editor-of-windows
As ORCA is only needed for viewing the tables, and not editing anything, the version of ORCA should not matter too much.
Or get a thing called SuperOrca (freeware) from here:
http://www.pantaray.com/msi_super_orca.html
Or InstEd (the free version is enough) here:
http://apps.instedit.com/
ORCA needs to be installaed before it can be used.
Take as an example the Garmap West Africa v1.2 (updated 13 September 2010)
the file downloaded is Garmap_WestAfrica_V1.2.exe
Use WinRAR to extract the files from the .exe
The only part required is contained in the folder: West Africa Streetmaps
And within the above folder, the only files required are: Setup_ENU.msi and Disk.cab
The cab file is a Microsoft format cab file (rather than an InstallShield version). Use WinRAR to
extract the files from Disk.cab
There are 199 files in the cab archive. Most of the files are .img files. But they have file names like:
00000003_img.3F8DE403_F4C0_4443_9A22_5672F414D44C
to
00000090_img.3F8DE403_F4C0_4443_9A22_5672F414D44C
These need renaming to look like:
00000003.img
to
00000090.img
That can be done with an app' tht provides batch renaming - like IrfanView
There are many files that are not needed for the mapset, but the others that are are:
basemap_img.E5C0B1AF_E73A_46BB_8C6B_FCEE07CA0752
I000071A_TYP.E5C0B1AF_E73A_46BB_8C6B_FCEE07CA0752
MDRMAP_IMG.E5C0B1AF_E73A_46BB_8C6B_FCEE07CA0752
product_mdx.E5C0B1AF_E73A_46BB_8C6B_FCEE07CA0752
product_tdb.E5C0B1AF_E73A_46BB_8C6B_FCEE07CA0752
It is simple to rename these by hand to:
basemap.img
I000071A.typ
MDRMAP.img
product.mdx
product.tdb
All the other files extracted from the Disk.cab can be deleted.
Now open the Setup_ENU.msi file with ORCA (right clicking in Windows Explorer should show a new option "Edit with ORCA")
Look at the left panel of the ORCA window, it is headed "Tables"
Click on the "Directory" table and some rows of information will appear in the right window
One row on the right should start with a label ProductDir. and the default directory will show as FAM_1818 (for the WA v1.2 map)
That give use the folder name for the mapset to go in (e.g. C:\garmin\FAM_1818)
Also take a look at the "File" table. At the end of the list in the right panel are the files that make the mapset. This
is a check that all files have been correctly extracted and renamed.
Make a folder in C:\Garmin called FAM_1818 and put all the re-named file sinto it - in this case 93 files.
This mapset now needs unlocking. This is a Family version so requires the Family unlocker available here:
http://www.gpspower.net/software-tools/141808-garmin-gmap-family-maps-format-version-mapsource-batch-unlocker.html
And finally, the mapset needs to be installed, use MapSetToolKit , as shown in post #3 of:
http://www.gpspower.net/garmin-maps/137062-garmap-southern-africa-streetmaps-2010-2-may-7-2010-a.html
The file names needed by MapSetToolKit are in C\Garmin\FAM_1818
the overview map is the basemap.img
This worked for me.
