Default Garmin Zumo 660 not starting up at all

    Hi,

I have bought a second hand Zumo 660 of which the seller ensured it only needed an update.
However, I think the problem for me is bigger then just an update.
I have to more Zumo 660 which work perfectly fine.
So I am used to working with them, updating them and doing hard/soft reset procedures.

Now, the problem with this one is, when I press the powerbutton, nothing happens. Black screen stays black.
So, perhaps a dead battery, I changed it with a garanteed full one from one of my other Zumo's .
    Still nothing.
I connected it to my computer but it is not recognized so I can't flash the firmware or look for corrupted files either.
I did a hard reset, soft reset. Nothing, still black screen.
Changed the screen with one of the other zumo's, still black.
O, i forgot, there is no SD in it. There was, but i got it out, it just held a map-file.

Now I am out of options as far as I can think of.

Anyone with a great suggestion for me (other then bin it)?

That sounds potentially bad. Not powering on at all might indicate either it's been hard-bricked by an inappropriate firmware flashing or it has a hardware failure. Before giving up, try the following in turn if you haven't already:

    1. Check if it's recognised under preboot mode in Windows Device Manager. See here how to access preboot: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Zumo 660 needs to have lower LH corner held to put it in preboot.

    2. Take it into a very dark space like a windowless walk-in wardrobe, press the power button to see if the screen shows a very faint light.

    3. Hold power button down for at least 30 seconds, release button then press it again to see if that wakes it up.

    4. Remove battery and leave it out for several hours to completely drain any residual current from circuits (overnight is usually sufficient).

    Hi,

    Thanks for this.
The Zumo is in my second home at this time an i am not. I will go there in 2 weeks and try this.
The battery is out of the device now for at least 5 weeks, so it must be drained by now.

Is this the same device you posted [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] about previously?

Ok. Best to post only in one place for assistance however i understand why you may now feel this isn't a firmware problem (not a soft-bricking) so we'll continue here for the present to hopefully rule out a hardware fault or hard-bricking. If there is no sign of the device powering on at all then soft solutions such as using cure fw can't be used.

Please let us know the results of testing 1 - 3 as per Post #2 then we can see if it's a (feasibly) fixable problem.
