Until 5 years ago, audio over USB used to be a popular solution also in the mobile phone industry.

However, there might be a problem with Pin4, which is grounded in the picture and shorted to Pin5.
In some headsets, this pin is loaded with a resistor having a particular value which depends on the accessory type: this is called USB ID, and it is meant to tell the host/device "which" accessory has been plugged in.
I don't know what the Live 1000 "expects" to see in order to switch the audio routing onto the USB connector.
I suggest you to try with a cheap mini-USB to 3.5 headset adapter. You can find this anywhere online, like the following:
