Smartphone GPS navigation has quickly grown into a robust product category with lots of options for consumers. the one can invest in a smartphone navigation package, or go for a dedicated GPS device from a leading manufacturer, such as Garmin or TomTom ...ect

Dedicated GPS (nüvi 1300LM), though I do have NavFree on my phablet. The smartphone apps serve as excellent backups if something should happen to the dedicated device, but they aren't quite to the standard of a Garmin or Tom Tom. They come close, but they all seem to have small quirks that I find to be irritating enough to not want to use them as my primary GPS device. However, in a pinch they will get me home if I'm lost.

I'm stuck to Garmin in phone too, but I cant update firmware or I loose it. iGO is a good alternative.
Outdoor handheld is not replaceable at the moment IMHO.

I do exactly the same, prefer the TomTom in the car but phone has far better battery life when walking around
