    Default Battery replacement: Nuvi 1300

Being so new to the forum(s), I am not certain where to place this data....if indeed it is "new" data. I searched, but found nothing....so here we go:

Garmin has always maintained the battery is not replaceable on their products. NOT TRUE (Just like iPods...). Here is a YouTube link guiding you step by step in replacing the battery. It is not complicated:

If it can be done for the 1300, I am rather certain it can be done for most any unit. As an example, Ebay has batteries for $6.00 including postage.

    Hope this helps others.

PS: I've tried to "hide" the link as has been suggested I do....but I'm not certain I quite know how to do it yet! (I highlighted the URL and then clicked on the H button. Correct???)

Just be very careful when taking out the battery the first time, It is glued in on some nuvi's.
The action of detaching the battery can cause display ribbon cables to tear off.

Happens to the best of us doesn't it boet? Also happens to the worst of us, 'coz i wrecked a 260W that way trying to replace the battery and tore off the display ribbon from the mobo breaking the connection on the board too. Now have a 260w with a dead battery, useless screen and stuffed mo. Repairs should only cost about 4 times what the unit's worth ... eBay anyone? [nah, couldn't do that, unconscionable]. Waiting for a replacement screen from Honkers for a 2595 i got cheap so I hope practice has improved my nuvi-wrangling skills.
Got a little-bitty snipe bid set for a bricked 1390 with a cr@cked screen too, i guess that seller couldn't unbrick it so in frustration did this to it:

If you break black plastic on mobo that hold ribbon, you can change this if you get another plastic from non working nuvi this is original repairing, home made repair is you take knife and cut little plastic from straw and add it on ribbon and then add tape on top
Nuvi screen is on ebay about 10$ - 20$.

That's a good tip for reattaching the ribbon with a bit of plastic straw and tape, thanks. As to the screen, the cheapest i could find was US$22 for the complete LCD screen [the digitalizer only about was about US$8, but i needed the whole thing]. Then about $5 for the battery and the problem of repairing the mo. Not worth it 'coz i got a near pristine 260w with a good battery for less than $15. Advertised 'for parts or not working' but when i got it all it needed was a hard reset and fw upgrade so i haven't repaired the old one, i'll keep it for parts instead.

    Step 12 is false

    12. Charge your new Garmin Nuvi 1300 Battery for 4 hours and then turn on.
When you connect nuvi to charger nuvi automaticly turn On.
