Default A method to transfer mapsource maps to another computer?

I don't have the original installation of some Topos, so is it possible to move the files and get mapsource to recognize the maps?

For the newer gmap folders, all one has to do is move them to the new computer and mapsource (6.1.6.3) will recognize the files. This did not work for some topo maps (SW USA topo\Southwest USA Topo\*.img files). There is an uninstall.exe and a TDB file in addition to the img files....Mapsource does not appear to recognize the maps in utilities menu.

I had read somewhere of an example that had an install.exe in the directory, but this does not....

    Suggestions?
    Thx

I have transferred multiple Garmin mapsets to other notebooks often.
My method - involves registry modification - use at your risk.

Copy the entire mapset folder to the new computer. It needs to be in the same drive letter and folder name or you WILL have to edit the registry *.reg file.
e.g. mine are all under D:\GPS\Garmin\MapSource\xxxxx

Run regedit and navigate to/search for:
    Windows 7 x64 - [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Garmin\MapSource]
    Windows 7 & XP x32 - [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\MapSource]

Export the section to a .reg file
Edit the .reg file CAREFULLY if your new PC is a different OS, drive or path. Remove "Wow6432Node\" for x32 or add for x64
Copy that .reg file to the new PC and double mouse click to add the entries to the registry.
Cross fingers and IF you have done it correctly it SHOULD all work.

Perhaps someone has perfected an automatic method?

Nice! I had already several maps in the new computer.........That gave me the location in the registry....went from XP to W7 64bit.....so had to add Wow6432Node, and for some reason one path key did not come across for the two maps I needed to transfer via regedit....
Studying the path structure for the keys and your comments got it.....
This means the installation exe really adds the registry key, extracts and puts in the directory files.

An automated method would be great, but this works!

    Thx!
