No problem, you can upload multiple times GCD file.
If there is a problem you need to disconnect the battery NAVI and then upload the GCD again.
There is one more problem... Even if I find some patch, then now do we test it?
We don't know what would happen if the patched firmware would crash. Would the unit be able to flash GCD files then?
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Neil was talking about some kind of a "pre-boot" mode. And I've seen some gupdate.gcd parsing code in the bootloader. But all these facts doesn't imply that we could restore the unit by flashing gupdate.gcd if patched fw_all.bin crashes.

In theory, it's possible to run fw_all.bin by using it as boot.bin in gupdate.gcd file. This would allow testing patched firmwares without saving them to flash, and therefore, without being afraid to brick the device.
But I'm not sure it would work, as fw_all.bin is much larger than boot.bin.
So I packed a slightly patched fw_all.bin (US v4.60 HWID 504) with gfwpack and created the following two gupdate.gcd files for HWIDs 265 and 504:

Is anyone willing to test if flashing one of the gupdate.gcd files successfully executes the patched firmware inside?
If fw_all.bin runs normally, then you would see that all the displayed strings were replaced with "X".

I will try. SO I am clear I load your gupdate.gcd v4.60 into my nav and I should see all XX in the string display ? I should then be able to reload the original V4.60 back into the Nav.?

Yes, every translatable string should be replaced by string "X", including the nag message.
No changes are made in the flash, so it shouldn't be harmful, regardless of the patched firmware crashing or working fine.
success ran your gupdate and all Xs. checked the memu and all options were X. reloaded the maps and everything was fine.
This is just a miracle! Now we can test patched firmwares without flashing them and thus without putting units in danger.
Btw, what is your bike model? USA or EU?
Mine is USA and I have been trying to do this mod for 6 years. As I stated I have done it with a hardware mod but really want a firmware mod to do it.
Thank you for your time

is it possible to modify your gupdate so we can append a modified fw_all.bin to it ? Similar to what you did with the earlier versions.
