You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
If you use Windows 10 then go to Pc with Win 7 or XP, becouse win 10 sometime have problem with updater.exe and give error like you have.
I have the same problem and i can repair device only on Pc with XP and try with different version of prepusb to format device, but i forget what version of prepusb format device.
How to be sure which ver is this device Garmin Nuvi 3790, serial 245xxxxx9. My notebook is windows 8.1 maybe good idea will be try load on windows XP?
serial removed, not necessary
I think "GIR Version Mismatch" comes from a wrong flashed boot.bin, what did brick this nuvi ?

RMPrepUSB V2.1.656 has always worked fine in Win8/8.1 64bit for me.

If your GarminDevice.xml file is also corrupted, you can see the HWID in preboot with G7toWin [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
When all other reformatting methods have failed including RMPrepUSB i've had some success with the free version of this:

Hello, GarminDevice.xml is not corupter, HWID is 1101. i will try today HDD low level format. Thanks
if you do successfully format it with 'Low Level Format Tool', then redo the format with RMPrepUSB before loading original firmware.
