Reason: updated links
Why the separate GMAP downloads? What's the difference? Advantages?
Can we have some instructions please on what to do with these files after downloading to get them installed? What happens after they are installed? Can they be executed or run in mapsource? If not, what are the instructions to get these files loaded onto Mapsource?
I thought these were the instructions on how to get maps onto your PC for routing: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]?
Just an FYI. You guys are making things more complicated than they need to be. I really appreciate the work the mods are doing here, but I've been noticing uploads are being posted in a hasty manner. Some of you may be used doing things the "hard" way and it may seem second nature to you, but it may not be so obvious to others.
One should think about everyone when an upload is made and posted. It should have instructions, clear, detailed, thorough instructions in the first post. When downloading via torrents, uploaders provide quite clear and virtually idiot proof instructions right on the first page along side of the description of the torrent. No linking to threads or forums with dozens of other links to sift through. This is just one MAJOR reason torrents are so popular. Everything is described in detail on what needs to happen to install these programs and where applicable, transfer to the device--all in the first or second post (no redirection of links).... at least that's the way it SHOULD be. If this basic premise is applied, then this will lessen the number of questions asked/posted on how to run and install the programs. Obviously, it won't eliminate all questions.
Right now, we have this link which doesn't help people to install the files that are available for download: "Before posting take a look here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]" I feel the link is useful in general, but that doesn't help one in terms of what needs to be done now after they unpack the files they just downloaded.
I am going to do everyone a favor. Once I get the above files and onto mapsource, I hope, I'll post the files and unlocked maps via torrent after my download cap from my ISP is reset. Rapidshare, megaupload etc. is so old school. I am honestly amazed that people here aren't using MIRC. It's not much better than the sites already mentioned. lol. IMHO, if these sites like Rapidshare and Megaupload are going to be used, then they should be in a format CryptLoad will understand (.dlc format) so people won't have the download restrictions imposed of reaching your daily limit. I dont like Jdownloader bcuz it's full of adware. Besides, I havent found one copy that doesn't have adware or malware.

Frustated XT, I believe that MOST people here know what to do with those files. And MIRC is a little dangerous, not to mention that it's an obsolete technology compared to BitTorrent.

Just copy the gmap folder in :
(in XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GARMIN\Maps) or
(in Vista, Windows 7 - C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\Maps)
The map will be in Mapsource without any other tweaking.

You asked intructions about how to use updater and how to save files on pc. you posted with an inappropriate title and in wrong section. I changed the title and moved it, in this way it will be useful for other members too, not only for you.
Noeman users fortunately read tutorials and like to learn something

Tutorials are made to give instructions, and you have a confortable index link to find quite everything you need. And following our posting rules , mods shouldnt give already answered questions on forum. It's not my case, I repeat and repeat lol, but it's ok, especially if questions are posed in a polite way.

We'r not a torrent site, we have usually direct links and they'r updated and kept alive for our users

Cant repeat instructions in every threads, should be too long and useless for most of users, who need more instructions can go to tutorials.

If you had read here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
you would have get the official Jdownloader site link: no malware
Jdownloader is the best way to download from multiple direct links, torrents are good if they'r new, after a week seeders abandon and they become terribly slow or dead. Try find all the maps we have in our index on valid torrents please.
Here links are good for 90% of the maps in our map index(may be more?)
we have a report button if you find a broken link.
Bro, If you want a new map, lol, you visit Noeman first ,I guess

Sadly catymag, you've become one of those mods who eventually got caught up in your little box that you just can't see outside of it. Over the years, you were never this way. Your provided details and instructions with your initial posts. Then you just posted the downloads what seems to be just for the sake of it and you were done with it. Your help seems to be to refer people to other threads. That in my opinion is not what a mod who actively participates in the forums should do. I feel you've become very set in your ways because you have the support of those who are like you. I used to really enjoy coming here then the site...at least the Garmin section slowly but surely became eroded. I see this site is in need of moderators, I guess they're desperate. IMO. Maybe it's time for you to be the Catymag I once knew or perhaps you should step aside? I don't think your heart in this mod business like it once was. Like another poster commented, this site is for people who know what to do...and what wasn't said, think like you. Pity.
BTW, when I transferred my newly created image file from Mapsource onto my device, I got an error message saying "cant unlock maps". I even tried using Jetmouse to create an unlock code.....no dice. Thanks for the effort you put into this thread. Your only effort seems to be in adding download links and telling people where to go....very useful info...not.
From another forum. If you google the exact wording, you may be able to figure out where this post came from and download the unlocked image file for 2011.40. If you can't, just think of deviloid. If you still have trouble, PM me and I'll send you the link to the torrent where you can download the unlocked image.
"(Unlocked IMG Instructions)
Use either Part A or Part B depending on your choice:
Part A – Internal Memory
1. Connect your device to the computer.
2. Go into the Nuvi files and backup the file named “gmapprom.img” to your computer.
3. Delete the “gmapprom.img” file from the device.
4. Copy the unlocked “gmapprom.img” file that you downloaded into the device.
5. Restart your device and check your map info via : Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info.
Part B – SD Card
1. Get a 2GB SD card (NOT SDHC) and format it FAT or FAT32
2. Create a folder on the memory card called “Garmin”
3. Copy the downloaded IMG file into the Garmin folder on your SD card.
4. Make sure the IMG file is named “gmapsupp.img” on the SD card.
5. Insert the SD card into your Garmin GPS, and browse to your map information on your Garmin GPS and you should see the new maps selected. This can be found on the device via : Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info. (Note: The SD card must remain in your device if you want to use the maps.)
Why is the file name important?
This must be done because this is not the primary mapset as it is being used from the SD card. The primary mapset is the one on the GPS’s internal memory."

((sorry folks. i've gotta vent after reading that accusatory and flaming post from "Frustated XT user". Catymag or other Mods feel free to delete this post and reprimand me if needed as you see fit))
No. The pity is when when you choose to not make use of the complete site and learn for yourself. Instead, you whine on and on like someone is supposed to hand hold you through the entire process.
Frustated XT user, you've been a forum "participant' here for nearly TWO years longer than I have. And honestly, you seem to fit the above description to a tee.
In the short time since I got my first GPS(Take note: registered here the same day) I've learned, by reading the posts and following the links, how to accomplish what it is you're being highly critical of Catymag and others of. Some trial and error was involved, sure, you bet.
Yet in the three months since I registered here I went from being a complete and utter newbie to being rather adept at accomplishing what it is you for reasons unknown haven't seemed to grasp yet. And to give credit where credit is due, I've accomplished this with the wealth of information posted throughout this very informative site. By the many before me that have taken the time to thoroughly document and post their knowledge.
IMO you, "Frustated XT user" , owe Catymag and the rest of the moderating staff here an apology for your lack of respect you so vehemently expressed within that post of yours.
Where I a Mod here, and thank your lucky stars I'm not, after reading your very disrespectful diatribe I would seriously be considering banning you and your IP
