Double Layer dvd works ok in a RNS 510
Friend of mine drives a skoda octavia 2009 with Columbus gps-nav-set similar to rns 510.
He has no disc for his nav.
I downloaded cd-8195 iso ver.12 west europe which is more than 4,7 GB.
Before i try to burn it on a double layer dvd i wonder if the rns 510 wil accept burned double layer dvd's.
My own car is an Avensis which does not. The tns700 unit in my car accept only pressed ones or single layer burned ones.
The avensis-map-software since ca. 2010 does this check for PTP/OTP pressing/branding.
If the columbus / rns 510 also does this check i wil not even try the branding on a DL dvd.
Can anybody tel me from his own experience if it worked on a columbus / rns 510 ?
Thank you for your attention.
Follow up: dvd burned on verbatim r+dl with imageburn as dvd-rom at speed 6x.
We put it in his rns510 and the dvd was apparently being read.
But after a while the screen said DVD ERROR.
After that It said: " want to use dvd or hdd ? ", but before we could respond on that choice , the message was gone.
But we could program a destination, and my friend reported after his ride home that when he removed the disc when driving, the system told him that the guidance would stop.
So my friend thinks the dvd worked, but i doubt it because of the error message.
The system might have used his hdd sources after all.
Is here someone with the same experience?
You need to use a good brand and you did. Verbatim is the one to use. The RNS-510 is capable of reading -R and +R discs.
When you burned the disc, did you do a verify read afterwards? I am burning these discs always with an old version of Nero and that never failed. Also use the lowest speed possible.
I think you have a disc with a "spot" where the data is not burned right. This means that as long the RNS-510 is navigating from the DVD it will work as long as you don't hit that "spot" on the disc. But when you copy the disc to the internal HDD, it will read that "spot" and it fails.
Burn another copy and try again.
Thank you for your to the point reply.
My (retired) friend just made a three week trip in France and his rns-510 worked, so he says.
But i am not sure which data he used, i.e. the dvd or hdd.
I think we meet each other again soon (and his car) and i will try to determine the current map version written on hdd.
And update after that.
