Not everyone is "equal" footing in forum. Not everyone deserved actual answer. And unless you're the site owner, you don't have "all" information AND you don't get to say what you know. Navigon is bought by Garmin because of eliminating competition; they have no interest in it. Use common sense.
Lets go into a scenario, in the US, a "gag order" can be place on litigants. It means, DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT. Don't know if other countries has this law. A lots of experience users has been quiet (gone underground); whether by choice or not, it's irrelevant. This forum might or might not survive after this; I hope it does. I do enjoy interacting with few hackers, Neil and Caty.

    Children, children, play nicely!

    Until/if/as/when the owners/admin here make a clear/definitive (and true) announcement we're all trying to double-guess what's happened.
All we know for sure is that Chaotix (Super Admin) has posted saying that the forum rules here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Forum rules updated :

We don't now allow uploading copyrighted materials. This means no copyrighted software. We only accept Free programs and tutorials .

This specifically refers to Garmin and TomTom software but nobody knows for sure why this has been imposed (yet) but I personally doubt this has anything whatsoever to do with TomTom threatening this forum with a "cease and desist" order as that's certainly NOT how TT have handled things in the past with other forums like i P mart etc

I don't think it matters why it was imposed. Whether it's from companies like Garmin/TomTom or from owner. It's his forum, his rules. Simple as that. Whether it survived or not is another story. Nevertheless, this is the forum NOW, learn to live with it or move on
BTW, my quote in Garmin forum is just that, it's Garmin (some of us knows more than others). It doesn't applied to TomTom.

P.S. What is that? A yellow sausage stick?

I completely agree with sentence in red. I'm talking about MUCH prior experience. It has nothing to do with the members getting "free" software but completely with CYA [cover your a$$]. Try to understand everyone.

Nowhere does that statement say Garmin/Tom Tom so in actual fact it applies to ALL copyrighted software. Whom ever loads maps etc is copyrighted except if the company supplies it FREE.

If it applied to ALL, it needed to be posted in ALL sections*. That would prevent any confusion or assumption. By observation, not ALL "copyrighted materials" are removed, look in sections other than Garmin and TomTom. BTW, contents for companies such as HERE WeGo, Sygic and Google Map are copyrighted but are free. So copyright alone doesn't mean illegal to distribute. Copyright is widely use to indicates protection not prevention. Most companies use copyright to protect themselves from others trying to making MONEY off their work not necessary preventing sharing for personal uses.

    * Yes it was updated in the GLOBAL section, but we see how everyone is reading that. ALL sections need a link to that global post so it can be consistent. And all previous copyrighted material needs removing if the statement posted in the global section are applied.

Maybe this clarifies (or clouds even further) where some software companies (like Garmin etc) may be coming from:- [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

OK but it says "We don't now allow uploading copyrighted materials."
So by that fact All material is Copyright, and if you take it on thoughs words, even if it is FREE it Contradicts the statement so in actual fact NO material is to be Uploaded. So going on that Chaotix can DELETE ANY material at any time to meet the statement. So what I'm saying is WHY are Members going to all the effort of using Megaupload or the likes IF it is really FREE, why not just link it, because I don't trust many members that supply a download of this sort, "mostly find it full of Spam".
But then I don't have any need to download anything anyway because since have been a Member there has not been any new Software or maps available for the programs I use.
Still use the Maps I bought years ago "Digital" Still get to where I like to be. ^_^
Will say I did do a test download and install for MaxSea coz members where complaining etc, did a Tut got it all working etc and a month later deleted to lot + downloads "No point don't have a boat and the map that was supplied as upto date, was no Different to the paper map we bought from the map shop 4 years previous, so why use this Super Dooper program if it uses OUT OF DATE MAPS.
Just makes me wonder why people these days HAVE to have the very latest in everything, I notice it more with Phones, they still do the same things as before but ya just lost $1000 out of your pocket.
    Anyway Nuff said.

I think the 2 parties in question and any others can learn from what is being "patched","hacked","modified" and “cracked”

It show just how easy it is to change the app or software or the encryption of all these products
and shows how many holes there are.

The 2 parties in question then can work on a better mouse trap and close the holes and make an even better product.

I would not be surprised if company’s have on their payroll just these same people.
I am sure they read all the posts.

It would be in their interested to see how it was "patched","hacked","modified" and “cracked”.

Now you would think after how many version of the “Go” app they would of closed all the holes.

But before the paint is even dry on the next release they exploited the same holes.

Then the question here is who is at fault?

Stopping the posting of copyright here does not make the problem go away.

It is all over the internet.

It is better that the companies learn form mistakes in their programming then coming up with this non working solution.

And this is the last I am saying in this matter.

    PS:
Thanks for pointing out my typo error osiris4isis for the word modified

What's "mortified"? Never heard that term before in software. And yes, companies should seriously examine what people in forum are struggling and provide better solution in their products. Hackers are often the one that solved these issues and provide fixes (often much better than what companies could do) So forums and hackers could provide invaluable resources for them. Companies are not looking for "problem to go away", they are looking for problem to go away in this forum. And like I said, they are not happy when their products are being sold without their permission or agreement (ie: Cheap Chinese made WinCE devices running cracked proggy)

@Magnetron I believe links to external sites are allowed (well should be allowed) Most of the "copyrighted" materials are available in other forums (simple google search easily showed them) And then there are things allow to be copied (mistaken to be copyrighted) that are from people posting in forum that gets deleted. If you're lucky to live in an area that is not changing, old maps is fine. Not everyone is so lucky. And if companies didn't charge so much for maps and contents, more people would not resort to taking them. Why do people wants the latest things is the same reason why people choose Apple over android.
